Ten minutes later, she asked me for a job.

​Every single week, I block out time on my calendar to work directly in the customer support department.

​I don't just do this to clear tickets. I do it because there is no better way to test our systems, understand our users' real frustrations, and gather the raw feedback we need to improve.

​But I also do it for another reason: It is my secret weapon for recruiting.
​When people are frustrated, the corporate mask slips, and their true character comes out. Often, I interact with community members who are incredibly polite. They explain their issues clearly, provide the right details, and communicate efficiently. I always take notes on these individuals. They are natural problem-solvers.

​But recently, a young woman submitted a ticket. She had made a user-end error, but instead of asking for help, she demanded an immediate solution and relentlessly insulted our support staff.

​I took over the ticket myself. I calmly resolved the issue, explained the fix, and ensured her account was secure.
​Her reply? She didn't apologize. Instead, she asked: "Thanks. By the way, do you have any open roles? I would love an opportunity to work for your company."

​I was speechless.

​Here is the truth about hiring that they don't teach you in business school: Your interview doesn't start when you sit down with the recruiting management. It starts the moment you interact with the team. ​The way you treat other people when you are stressed is your actual resume.

​If you're having a challenge regulating your emotions and communicating respectfully when you are a user, how can we trust you to represent our brand, handle our clients, or support our ecosystem when you are an employee?
