Guilds – A New Era for Gaming Communities

With the launch of the Guilds collection, our focus is to foster thriving communities and grow the number of players in TSD, as well as the broader @enjin ecosystem.

Guilds aim to make it easier than ever to use NFTs to establish clans both in-game and on Discord. With the Enjin bot, any game in the Enjin network can now integrate Guild NFTs. However, we’re pushing this concept further: in The Six Dragons, Guild NFTs can be enchanted based on guild performance. Looking ahead, we plan to onboard more games into the Guilds system, moving beyond Discord to enable enchanting through other Enjin-powered games. This evolution will be guided by a shared metric we call HPA (Hours Per Achievement), ensuring consistency in how Guild NFTs are upgraded across games.

For example, a 10-hour guild activity in TSD will be equivalent to a 10-hour task in another Enjin game. Similarly, earning a reward for a 50 HPA activity in one game will provide a comparable benefit across all participating games. To implement this system, games looking to support Guild enchantments must define a transparent HPA metric.

Additionally, as guild members inevitably move on, they’ll have the option to sell their Guild NFT. This approach rewards their contributions while instantly filling the guild’s vacant spot.

While this concept is innovative and promising, there are challenges we need to address:

1) Speculation
As guilds rise in rank and enchant their NFTs, some players may speculate by owning multiple Guild NFTs. While this increases scarcity and drives up NFT prices, it can hurt guilds by preventing active players from joining.

Solution:
Currently, there’s no perfect fix. Games will need to address this internally (e.g., in TSD, we’ll prevent players holding multiple NFTs from participating in guild activities). Over time, game theory should help: as NFT scarcity increases and prices rise, speculators are likely to sell.
Solution 2:
We plan to significantly increase the Guilds collection fee (with input from Governors), allocating 90% of this fee to a pool of $ENJ that guilds compete for during seasons/events. The remaining 10% will go to Guildmasters and cover operational expenses. Guild members who don’t contribute enough won’t receive a share of the pool, leaving redistribution of winnings to the Guild Leader.

2) Inactivity
In traditional Web2 guilds, an inactive member can be removed from Discord or the game with ease. In this system, however, owning an NFT makes a player a permanent part of the guild.

Solution:
As this is a novel system, we’ll rely on game theory and observation. An inactive member holding a Guild NFT will drive its value up over time. Unless the holder has forgotten about it entirely, they’re likely to sell eventually. For now, it’s the Guild Leader’s responsibility to distribute their Gen-0 Guild NFTs (Emblems) wisely and entrust them to reliable members.

We’re excited about the potential of Guilds to revolutionize gaming communities and introduce new layers of collaboration, strategy, and reward. While there are hurdles to overcome, the unique opportunities this system offers make it a transformative step for The Six Dragons and the entire Enjin ecosystem.
