DROUGHT IMPROVEMENT: Specifics are delayed, but the contour is finally out, and it does show improvement across the Carolinas & the Cape Fear Region. Still a ways to go before things like conservation measures are rolled back. #WECTwx#ILMwx
Steamy sun over a recent downpour... South-facing beaches like Ocean Isle have a moderate rip current risk this Memorial Day. For east-facing beaches, that risk's even a little higher. Have a safe time!
NHC Preseason Outlook Just dropped: Numbers are widely favoring a below-normal year with El Niño expected to develop and intensify, squashing tropical activity despite warmer than normal water temperatures. #WECTwx#ILMwx#NHC
Temps are gaining a head of steam this weekend, and they'll keep the momentum in the new work week. Higher humidity could lend itself to patchy morning fog and make afternoons a bit more taxing if you work outside, so please take care!
This week will host one more shot of chill with upper 40s and lower 50s likely first thing Friday. After that, expect a big warmup worthy of a beach, lake, or pool weekend!
MUSIC TO OUR EARS! Much-needed rain returning to SE NC and the Carolinas! Period of rain & locally gusty storms will continue through the rest of your Thursday, so grab the rain gear! #WECTwx#ILMwx
RAIN ON THE WAY: Have the rain gear ready Thursday as passing clusters of showers & gusty storms roll across the Carolinas & Cape Fear. Helpful, drought-denting rain of bout 0.5"-1.5" expected before moving out early Thursday night. #WECTwx#ILMwx
Not since February 27 has the Cape Fear had such a uniformly significant, soaking rain such as this. While it won't cure the drought, it's greatly helpful. Full First Alert Forecast: https://t.co/3kv80INjRv. #WECTwx#ILMwx
While Wednesday's rain chances mostly fell flat, Thursday's may locally overperform. Amid a fast west flow, the next disturbance seems to be taking a good trajectory for the Cape Fear, so keep an eye out through lunch. Saturday's rain odds, by the way, still look pretty good.
April showers! Radar's set to stay busy through midafternoon. Lots of gardens will be happy. A few will miss out. More rain chances in the extended can, hopefully, amount to a couple of dings in the drought. We won't refuse any drops in any case!
The drought goes from bad to worse across the Carolinas & portions of the Lower Cape Fear, too. Rain chances will trend upward in the days ahead, but we'll need a lot of consistency and a lot of ran (not all at once, though) before we can bust it.
Just three weeks of April down, and the year-to-date rainfall deficit's already over half a foot. And since 2024, it's pushing 30 inches! Fair to say we desperately need rain...
