The 1985 film The Forgotten War in Eritrea, produced by the National Film Board of Canada, deals with Eritrea’s liberation and the overthrow of the Derg regime under dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam; around 114,000 #Ethiopian soldiers became #Eritrean prisoners of war.

Just as a note of human history of cultural exchanges and in appreciation of the efforts being made by the young students, I happily shared with them a model to emulate for building a bridge of communication between people-to-people implemented by a young musician (soldier) from Eritrea, I.e. (Major) Ghirmay Hadgu, who served in the Korean War as a soldier (1951 - 1953.) He brought back home with him, i.e. to #Eritrea and #Ethiopia, the popular Japanese musical genre which is characterized by sentimental, melodramatic ballads that blend traditional Japanese music called Enka and harmoniously blended it with the local modern music of both countries in his life-long carrier through various cultural means.

Ghirmay built a very successful living, bridge between #Eritrea #Ethiopia #Japan through music.

Today, I was happy to attend and learn from the presentation made by the young students of SEISA International high school on a similar efforts of building a bridge for various cultural exchanges between Japan and Eritrea. Wish them all good luck and Ganbate! エチオピア エリトリア

Some circles have labeled me an enemy of Ethiopia. But I am not the enemy of any nation in Africa. Ethiopia was the first African country I lived in and its people are wonderful. I’ve been following Horn of Africa as a journalist for over 12 years. What I criticize are policies, not people. I’m against the way Ethiopia has been treating its neighbors, and I’m against the UAE pouring weapons into the region for their ambitions. An Ethiopian child and a Sudanese child are no different to me.I want every one of them to have the same chances as children in Türkiye, or anywhere else in the world.

ERITREA ― The Embassy of the State of #Eritrea wishes to categorically reject the statement made by the @ukhomeoffice Secretary on 14 October 2026 yesterday, alleging that Eritrea has “abruptly” withdrawn cooperation on “enforced and escorted return” of its nationals.

As for imposing “corrective visa actions,” regrettable as it may be, the UK has not issued a single visa to an Eritrean official since 2023, a fact that hardly needs repeating.
