We have such an abundance of wee flowers at the moment so we decided to get creative and use them to create some process art ๐ผ
There is so much language that comes with this kind of experiment:
๐ธ Textures
๐ธ Colours
๐ธ Directions
๐ธ Turn taking
๐ธ Imagination

๐ We have some exciting news ๐
Soon we will be adding another weeSTEMer to our squad๐คฐ๐ผ
Due to the upcoming arrival of baby, weeSTEMs sessions wonโt be restarting in 2021 in order to allow me to continue to shield and then take a few months off with the little one ๐ถ๐ผ
๐ Draw numbers
๐ Play โHop on the numberโ (someone shouts a number and the players jump on that number. Then switch turns)
๐ Make number shapes out of shells and stones and seaweed
๐ Put the correct number of items into the numbered circle
๐ Count things around you
โ๏ธ Role-played being scientists and engineers and astronauts whilst designing and playing with the Mars robot
โ๏ธ Used our imagination when collecting samples from Mars to store in the cache
โ๏ธ Edited our design when we realised things were missing/broken
โ๏ธWatched a documentary on how Perseverance was designed and made
โ๏ธUsed a calendar to track when it was launched and how long itโs taken to get to Mars
โ๏ธDrew annotated diagrams of what we thought our Mars rover needs
โ๏ธWorked together to select the best materials to create it
โฅ๏ธ Rip red paper and place into a blender
โฅ๏ธ Add water & soak
โฅ๏ธ Blitz into a paste
โฅ๏ธ Drain through a sieve or in your hand for extra sensory play!
โฅ๏ธ Mix through seeds (you could harvest your own from fruit that you have)
โฅ๏ธ Shape into a love heart and leave to dry

๐ Covid-19 Vaccine ๐
I have grossly oversimplified how viruses and vaccines work - however I hope this is an enjoyable activity that helps to shine a light on the very basic principles of vaccines and how they work.

Number bonds simply means which number youโd pair (i.e. bond) with another in order to result in a specific answer (in this case 10).
For example, some number bonds to 10 are:
2 + 8 = 10
3 + 7 = 10
4 + 6 = 10
Let me know if youโve any questions!
We used:
๐ฆ Birdseed (for small birds)
๐ฆ Lard (melted)
๐ฆ Cookie cutters & yoghurt pots
๐ฆ String
๐ฆ Mixing bowl & spatulas
๐ฆ Baking tray (for drying them on)
Simply mix together the birdseed & lard and shape into anything you have to hand.
๐ง Inspected the air bubbles inside and how they got there
๐ง Discovered ice tendrils forming on our path and explored how ice forms
๐ง Hunted for ice in other containers (buckets, tubs, holes)
๐ง Made ice jigsaws
๐ง Weighed it and measured the thickness
๐ง Used different force to shatter it
๐ง Scientific descriptive language (temperature, melting, degrees, freezing point)
๐ง Spacial rotation to fit the pieces back together
๐ง Discussed why it floats
