@MarkWilson1980 Are you advocating for a mass migration? Of Irish people from one part of Ireland to another, to appease a different kind of Irish-born people who don't want to live under an Irish government?
@JThereault@mehdirhasan Millions of Arab Muslims, Christian or otherwise are living under occupation by Israel. As per international law.
That's not to mention the systemic discrimination Arabs face in Israel. E.g. Banning Arab political parties.
@JThereault@mehdirhasan And what of the majority of Palestinians who are ethnic Jews? The Palestinians who converted to Christianity or Islam at the pressure of other empires. What of the Arabs who are also native to the Levant. Also Semitic.
Unpopular opinion; No one - literally not a soul - actually enjoys the taste of beer. Not a single human. Those who claim to enjoy beer, donโt actually. Itโs really just a social ritual, a form of self deceptionโฆ the impact of decades of stacked marketing to convince you that beer is anything but an alcohol delivery mechanism. You can enjoy getting sloshed. You can enjoy the social liberation that alcohol offers. You can enjoy the party. But donโt act like you actually like the taste of beer. You donโt. You might think you do. But you donโt. Because it tastes like it looks: bitter dehydrated piss, with bubbles. In the case of Guinness, like diarrhea, with bubbles. And you know it.
"If you want to get out of here safe and sound, no filming."
Those were the words I was met with while filming a protest in Derryโs Waterside this evening.
I was told not to film because they said the protest was peaceful. When I asked whether they wanted to get their message out there, the response was "shut your mouth".
I then approached one person who had been shouting at me and asked if I had done something wrong. I was told no, but then immediately told to "f**k off".
There was also a warning that if they were "over in my end of the woods", it would be a different story - not sure what this means.
I was told they did not want me there and that I had no right to stand in the street.
I do not know who these people were, but they were standing, watching over the protest. Their message, however, was clear: journalists are not welcome.
I will not be intimidated, threatened or deterred from carrying out my work. I stand firmly by the principle that the press must be free to report without fear, favour or intimidation.
I will continue to do my job. I will not be silenced, and I will not be intimidated out of doing the work the public has a right to see. @NUJofficial
@wee_barso99@DerSchwarzBaron Everything great that came out of Southern Ireland is British. Even Guinness.
The Gaels achieved & built nothing of any value.
I'm not trying to demean your identity. Though the "Brits Out" terrorists have done more of that than anybody. But you believe many Separatist lies.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron British rule in Ireland has proven to be unsuccessful in Ireland though. Still proven to be.
At the least Unionists like yourself could strive to prove the merit in the Union, from NI.
Without being as bigoted or insulting as you have been over this whole conversation.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron It's not the primary determination but it would be wrong to remove it from the consideration.
Being able to speak a language isn't the same thing as a language belonging to a national identity. You prove this yourself by using Japanese and English as a straw man.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron British rule is the primary context.
The Gavelkind Act, that reintroduced it, was a British law.
The many other factors such as limitations on land ownership/land value, enclosure, education, lawmaking as well as tenant farming were all a consequence of British rule.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron Your own argument is falling apart here. On the one hand the Irish and the British are 1 big family, yet also you clearly make a distinction in terms of national identity and culture.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron In these contexts Ireland isn't the aggressor.
Catholic England invaded Ireland at the request of the only English Pope.
Statutes of Kilkenny soon followed. Laws that existed to separate Irish/English people in Ireland.
Yet in your own words we are "kith and kin?"
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron I can give more than a few examples. The fact we two N. Europeans are having this conversation in writing, is a big one.
Perhaps you need to be more precise in your search. Regardless, I thought we were the same? British and Gaelic?
I've repeated your bigoted statement twice.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron "The Gaels achieved and built nothing of value."
I don't have to defend myself or my country or it's achievments to a bigot that can't even understand their own hypocrisy.
If you're so interested you can use Google AI to inform you, like you've done the rest this convo.
@aikial1977@DerSchwarzBaron If how Britain has treated Ireland is familial then I worry for your own.
Grasping at straws. Evidently genetic kinship has meant nothing throughout the history between Britain and Ireland. Otherwise it begs the question, why the cruelty? Why the attempted eradication?
