We have such an abundance of wee flowers at the moment so we decided to get creative and use them to create some process art 🖼
There is so much language that comes with this kind of experiment:
🌸 Textures
🌸 Colours
🌸 Directions
🌸 Turn taking
🌸 Imagination

🎉 We have some exciting news 🎉
Soon we will be adding another weeSTEMer to our squad🤰🏼
Due to the upcoming arrival of baby, weeSTEMs sessions won’t be restarting in 2021 in order to allow me to continue to shield and then take a few months off with the little one 👶🏼
🏝 Draw numbers
🏝 Play ‘Hop on the number’ (someone shouts a number and the players jump on that number. Then switch turns)
🏝 Make number shapes out of shells and stones and seaweed
🏝 Put the correct number of items into the numbered circle
🏝 Count things around you
☄️ Role-played being scientists and engineers and astronauts whilst designing and playing with the Mars robot
☄️ Used our imagination when collecting samples from Mars to store in the cache
☄️ Edited our design when we realised things were missing/broken
☄️Watched a documentary on how Perseverance was designed and made
☄️Used a calendar to track when it was launched and how long it’s taken to get to Mars
☄️Drew annotated diagrams of what we thought our Mars rover needs
☄️Worked together to select the best materials to create it
♥️ Rip red paper and place into a blender

💉 Covid-19 Vaccine 💉
I have grossly oversimplified how viruses and vaccines work - however I hope this is an enjoyable activity that helps to shine a light on the very basic principles of vaccines and how they work.

Number bonds simply means which number you’d pair (i.e. bond) with another in order to result in a specific answer (in this case 10).
For example, some number bonds to 10 are:
2 + 8 = 10
3 + 7 = 10
4 + 6 = 10
Let me know if you’ve any questions!
We used:
🐦 Birdseed (for small birds)
🐦 Lard (melted)
🐦 Cookie cutters & yoghurt pots
🐦 String
🐦 Mixing bowl & spatulas
🐦 Baking tray (for drying them on)
Simply mix together the birdseed & lard and shape into anything you have to hand.
🧊 Inspected the air bubbles inside and how they got there
🧊 Discovered ice tendrils forming on our path and explored how ice forms
🧊 Hunted for ice in other containers (buckets, tubs, holes)
🧊 Made ice jigsaws
🧊 Weighed it and measured the thickness
🧊 Used different force to shatter it
🧊 Scientific descriptive language (temperature, melting, degrees, freezing point)
🧊 Spacial rotation to fit the pieces back together
🧊 Discussed why it floats
