A scandal has erupted in the U.S. after a deranged wealthy man threw a rock at a Hawaiian monk seal — one of the rarest marine mammals in the world.

The incident happened on the island of Maui and was caught on video. Witnesses tried to stop the man, but he just laughed and said he was rich enough to pay any fines.

After the footage went public, police detained the suspect. He faces up to a year in prison.

There are only about 1,600 monk seals left in Hawaii. The species is endangered.

Instagram is removing end-to-end encryption from private messages — The Guardian

This means the company will technically be able to access the content of private conversations.

According to The Guardian, user data may also be shared with law enforcement upon official requests.

End-to-end encryption is considered one of the key ways to protect private communication. Without it, messages can potentially be read not only by the sender and recipient, but also by the platform itself..
