@JamesAFurey I'm one of those teachers. I let the situation and whim guide my time and deadlines re-focus me. I'm getting better at it but still find myself doing that one big thing that can't be put off any longer on a Sunday night.
When whiteboard markers start to fade in my class, students come up to show me and we try and revive it with new ink that I buy from Amazon. I pull the marker's back lid off, drip in the ink, give it a shake and it's good to go. Looking back I could have been using all sorts of great in-context vocabulary during that procedure. A missed opportunity! Never again! We'll be:
"Refurbishing writing instruments to provide optimal utility by injecting new pigment into the cylinder designed to protect fluid from evaporating!"
🤣
@smorrisey Great job on the Better Teaching podcast Sean!
That story with your pen dying and your students all attempting to out-do each other by coming up with more advanced vocabulary to describe the situation is one of those classic teacher moments that you and all of your students will remember. It's concrete evidence that they value what you have taught them and can use it in authentic situations.
I loved your question at the end as well about why there is such reluctance of teachers to collaborate on being more effective in their craft.
If I wasn't already a fan of your work, I'd have been convinced that you are really on to something with your explicit vocabulary instructional routines. (fist bump).
@GTavernetti
I'm quite interested in their new diagnostic. They claim it is much shorter while still providing actionable data. I get really frustrated with the length of time it takes to diagnose students with the current diagnostic. You know the student is just getting board and starts guessing just to get through it. Nothing authentic about it.
@LinzzWright@surfranchvibes Best thing is a balance. SOME regeneration for an eventual stop. The default dynamics on the tesla are too aggressive. Adjusting that is an option and is very easy to do on the center console. But I have to do it every time. I can't just set it and have it remember my preference.
On the contrary. I'd like to preserve the energy I have accumulated from the motor of my vehicle into continued forward momentum until I am ready to slow down myself. No matter how efficient regenerative breaking is, it's still a sacrifice of forward momentum into electricity. Forward momentum I already had. Coasting down a slight hill is usually more efficient than sacrificing that momentum for electricity.
@mathewguy6@_oRyca_@elonmusk Most of the advancements indirectly ensures that life on earth is improved as well. It's not one or the other. It's one AND the other.
