that said, its a comic that could've done with some more research, and i believe trans women who say it's not as relatable to them as it should be. i don't think it's above reproach, but it did speak to me

i think part of the problem re: the comic is that there are around 10-12 trans people on twitter who have a lot of reach and are unusually malicious people, and their comments on the matter are going to be what people remember as the prevailing opinion

i also think the critique that ripley is too passive in the face of her abuse and just "lets it happen" to be actually genuinely offensive and i hope none of y'all treat actual victims of child abuse that way

lots of thoughts floating around about this comic, but what i find striking about it is the concept of "control" from the perspective of the abuse victim, and what it's like to seek out a form of control in a situation where you feel powerless

that said, i also think a lot of people have fair and legitimate criticisms, particularly trans women, i just disagree with the idea that ripley is rendered unsympathetic via the act of seeking out pain, as if that isn't a textbook abuse response
