Thanks for the tweet @RembrandtsRoom We are of course delighted to learn of the @hetdordts discovery in linking the fragment that we sold to them @TEFAF to clearly such an important Dordrecht family.
The fragment bought at TEFAF by the Dordrechts Museum is revealed to have been part of a large family portrait that hung in the Van Beveren Chapel in Dordrecht's Grote Kerk. The chapel was dismantled after 1572: Dordrecht became reformed and the family renounced the rc faith 1/2

@DirkMeulenijzer @Bonnefanten It depicts Frédéric-Maurice de la Tour d'Auvergne (1605 - 1652), who was a Governor of Maastricht. It was painted by Michiel Jansz van Mierevelt (1567 - 1641) in 1626.
