Imagine taking a few Bible verses on human sexuality as literal divine commands from God for all society, but minimizing 2,000+ verses calling for the care of immigrants, the marginalized, the oppressed, and the poor to be a personal choice.
When you insist on seeing God in the face of the emperor, no matter how corrupt they are, and refuse to see God in the face of the immigrant being arrested after being falsely accused of being a criminal, you have yet to understand the gospel of Jesus.
It’s always "The Bible must influence our laws!" until it comes to all those verses about welcoming the immigrant, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, forgiving debts, caring for our planet, laying down our swords, or loving all our neighbors.
When you worship power, compassion and mercy will look like sins.
When you worship power, the harsher the treatment towards your "enemies," the more righteous it will look.
When you worship power, the value and dignity of others is solely measured by their conformity to you.

Jesus knew Lazarus would rise again. Still, he wept.
Because embracing pain is not negating faith. It's actually part of being in the likeness of God.
So have hope, but don't deny your emotions. Pay attention to them. Feel what you feel.
And enjoy the coming resurrection.
When I decided to come to Purdue, these lights didn’t exist. A lot didn’t exist. I came here to help rebuild a broken program. It’s been rebuilt. If there’s one thing being a Boilermaker has taught me, it’s how to deal with adversity. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. 💪🏽🚂
I believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus, the pinnacle of history.
I also believe that resurrection was not just a one-time event 2000 years ago.
Now we live in light of the resurrection. We are Easter people.
