TOURISM - EMPLOYMENT
I would like to encourage many of you here to take keen interest in reports produced by banks especially.
End of MAY 2026, I read Stanbic bank report on loss of jobs in hospitality by end of May 2026.
In May alone over 40k jobs were lost just over 5% of the total jobs tourism supports directly in Uganda( 890k total jobs supported by tourism).
Great Lakes collection for example for the months of May to October 2026, from an average of 65% to 30% first week of May and the 3rd week, we were at 18% and even touched 10%.
In the bush, you need 25% to break even, just paying bills and in the city between 35 to 45% to be able to pay salaries, suppliers of services.
Tourism supports almost all sectors in the economy, from agriculture , manufacturing, petroleum, transport etc
When the direct jobs go, shows all types of suppliers face the axe and indirect jobs are also lost.
This can only be understood by 3 types of people, the employers, the unemployed and the laid off guys.
None of the tax collectors stops collecting taxes even when it’s so clear that business is gone.
You can understand, government needs to pay back loans, Ugandas loans are close to ushs 140 trillion. If you don’t follow figures, you won’t appreciate that.
You will think those complaining are mad, the economy should be locked down, many of you understand this but there is a lot that’s so ignorant.
The economic impact of restricting Ugandans from free movement across the globe must be massive. Lots of opportunities!
When you see some of us MAD, it’s coming from somewhere.
Us employers we see the real impact on business which the whole country depends on. We also how many desperate young people are out there due to unemployment.
Was it necessary? BIG NO
DO YOU KNOW HOW UGANDANS DIE OF MALARIA ANNUALLY? 13,000 and 13m get malaria every year. 13k are generally poverty related deaths.
And you can see why? Uganda has about 31m bank accounts holding about 41 trillion shillings. Over 90% hold less than 1m in savings.
End of discussion
A Reuters legal analysis cites research suggesting that 47% of workplace AI interactions use personal identities and 66% of office professionals have used AI despite employer restrictions. Unmanaged - undeclared tools, do expose contracts, personnel records, customer data and confidential advice.
Organizations should URGENTLY & OPENLY entrench AI into daily operations. Blanket bans may drive usage underground; practical governance must combine approved tools, data rules, training and accountable human review.
With our agency ready to help you entrench AI for both implementors & adopters - starting with a shadow AI Audit - what stops your organization from being proactive?
CBS PEWOSA, Mateete, UNBS Staff and Kibaya Youth Development SACCOs have received licences, increasing the number of large SACCOs directly supervised by Bank of Uganda to ten. Licensed institutions can access subsidised Agricultural Credit Facility & Small Business Fund financing.
What stops yours? With an end to end agency like ours, supporting you with a proper - SACCO Licensing & Management Readiness Review - covering capital, board competence, member records, internal controls, disclosures, ESG and credit-risk management.
We also provide an end to end SACCO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, that allows you to test use it for the first 3 months of inception. Your SACCO has no reason not to scale up!
ANOTHER BIG MOVE: Credit-scoring giant FICO is cutting 15% of its workforce - about 570 people - to integrate AI and "simplify" operations. Cost: $27M in restructuring charges.
Why it matters?
1) To Employers: AI layoffs are not free productivity. You pay in severance, lost knowledge, low morale, and execution risk.
Don't cut and pray. Do an “AI Workforce Transition Review first”. Know exactly what will happen to your business before you restructure, not after. That's what Julius + team of consultants at EBC can help you do.
2) To Employees: AI isn't coming, it's cutting. Why wait for your role to be restructured? With EBC ready to help you Up-skill now!!
Get AI-certified with minimum a 3 months introduction to AI - certificate (Adopters) before the axe finds you. If you are in management - AI for Managers (Implementors) is 6 months course BUT worth it.
Kenyan firms saved KSh1.87bn on electricity in 2025/26 threw off-peak tariffs offering a 50% energy-charge discount.
What does this say? Opportunity? Manufacturers should test whether rescheduling energy-intensive work to OFF PEAK can cut unit costs without creating safety or staffing risks.

Ug has raised UDB’s capital base to UGX2.2tn, strengthening long-term finance for manufacturing, agro-processing, tourism & technology.
