Potemkin Party's official media outlets - Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), EBC, and FANA among others - are yet again on overdrive mode this week to churn out, particularly in their domestic broadcasts, fallacious and incendiary vitriol against Eritrea on a daily basis.

The stale and obsolete themes, the inflammatory and provocative packaging, remain the same; i.e.

1. Denigration and denial of Eritrea's hard-won independence that was achieved through precious sacrifices in Africa's longest liberation struggle when its right to decolonization was suppressed in the 1940s on the altar of "overarching" geopolitical interests of some global powers;
2. Repeated and bellicose pronouncements, accompanied by incessant saber-rattling, on the Potemkin Party's inexorable quest for "sovereign access to the sea... through negotiations if possible and force if necessary";
3. Rationalization of a "wider war that would expand to Eritrea's Dahlak Islands for reasons of strategic depth", in order to project and guarantee, in its convoluted views, "viable maritime power";
4. Banal and spurious "economic arguments" for rationalizing war and invasion in order to avoid exorbitant "port fees"; etc.

These are red lines and political blasphemies that should not be countenanced by any normal country.

The sad fact is these are normative for a callous and reckless Potemkin Party that seems to specialize in incubating endless conflicts both at home and in the wider Horn of Africa region (illicit MoU with Somaliland; active and surrogate role in the exacerbation of the conflict in Sudan etc.).

PP (aka Potemkin Party) political and military officials are in an overdrive mode these days; enveloped as they are in inordinate fanfares to "normalize" their delusional and reckless pursuit of "securing sovereign access to the sea".

They are even harking back to the dark chapter in the modern history of both countries to allude to, and lionize, the annexation period; unlawful and abominable as this is.

As underlined on various occasions before, this is of course a political blasphemy of the highest order; a red line that should not be contemplated or crossed.

PP is dangling this toxic, adventurist, agenda of war and conflict while presiding over an economy that requires intermittent financial injections from the IMF, the WB, and other assorted multilateral and bilateral "donors". The multiple internal wars that are raging in Ethiopia to exact avoidable losses of precious lives and the destruction of property is another quagmire that warrants judicious resolution for the sake and welfare of the Ethiopian people.

And yet, PP officials and their minions seem to indulge in extensive and elaborate gaslighting - hosting Summits on Climate Change; Afro-Caribbean Cooperation etc. - to deceive and hoodwink their domestic and international constituencies rather than seeking enduring solutions to their domestic woes and contributing to a regional climate of stability and cooperation on the basis of legality and common sense.

The Minister of Marine Resources, Mr. Tewolde Qelati, today met in Massawa, the Italian delegation led by Mr. Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests; and, Mr. Edmondo Cirielli, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The discussions centered on investment in the fisheries sector. The delegation also visited the port and ship-repair facilities in the city.

Abiy Ahmed has played all his cards and lost. He now awaits the final judgment of the Ethiopian people. His gravest strategic miscalculation was abandoning Ethiopia’s historic ties with the countries and peoples of the region to serve the agendas of the UAE, Israel, and the British. ETHIOPIA ― World Council of Churches (WCC) Condemns PM Abiy Ahmed Over Civilian Deaths from Drone Strikes in the Amhara region.

On 23 April, more than 100 civilians, including women and children, are reported to have been killed while gathered at a primary school for community activities.

“This atrocity adds to a growing list of similar incidents in recent months, including another devastating drone strike in 2024 that targeted civilians,” said WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay.

The Ministry of Agriculture convened, in collaboation with the FAO, a workshop at the NCEW Conference Hall yesterday, under the over-arching theme: "Enhancing Agribusiness for Sustainable Food Systems".

The Conference, which brought together senior Government officials, UN Represenatives, and sector experts, focused on seven selected commodities critical to national food systems.

Mr. Tekleab Mesghena, the Director General of the Regulatory Services, delivered Opening Remarks. Other Speakers include: Dr. Woldai Futur, Head of the Investment Center; Ms. Nahla Valji, UN Resident Coordinator; Ms. Farazui Zimduzi, FAO's Sub-Regional Director for Eastern Africa; and Mr. Semere Amlesom, Director General of the Agricultural Extension Department.

The Conference featured panel discussions exploring strategies for inclusive economic growth and development in the agricultural sector.

Spectrum of key topics addressed include: investing in agriculture to improve food security; response to climate-related challenges; forging partnerships with international and domestic stakeholders, as well as effective policies to support agricultural transformation.
