There are a lot of advertisements going around on social media about fire blankets. Here are some recommendations about fire blankets from @WellandFire
P.S. judging by the food stain on FPO Atkins' shirt, we think he should've used the fire blanket as a bib instead of a napkin
WFES would like to congratulate City of Welland staff, including our own Executive Assistant Caroline Bull, for graduating the Nextgen Municipal Leadership Program at Brock University’s Goodman School of Business. Congratulations!
Some important (and timely) winter driving tips from Welland Deputy Fire Chief Matt Richardson.
-Snow cleared completely off the vehicle ✅
-Winter tires put on the vehicle✅
-Emergency kit in the vehicle ✅
-Snowball to the back of the head ❌(Not Recommended)
If you watched the big fight this past weekend on a particular streaming service (or have heard anything about it) then this fire safety message is for YOU.
Date night idea: Fire Safety & Chill. IYKYK
Today was "Take You Student to Work Day" and FPO Atkins went undercover as a high school student to talk to the parents about the importance of fire safety.
Nobody suspected a thing.
November 1-7, 2024 is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.
As FPO Atkins enthusiastically explains in this video, carbon monoxide is colourless, odorless, flavourless, & deadly. Install CO alarms outside of all sleeping areas if you have fuel burning appliance or an attached garage
Welland Fire and Emergency Services would like to thank all of our staff (across multiple divisions) who came out to support the Welland Food Drive this past weekend. We'd also like to thank all of the community members who donated groceries to this very important cause.
Welland Fire & Emergency Services wishes you a Happy Diwali.
Please celebrate safely and responsibly when using open flames, and remember that fireworks are not permitted at this time of year in the City of Welland.
Welland Fire and Emergency Services wishes you a safe and happy Halloween.
We'd also like to remind you that smoke alarms expire. Check the dates on your alarms and replace any that are too old.
Hold on a second. People always say WHAT to FPO Atkins? 🤔
We can at least agree that it's scary how many homes in Ontario don't have working smoke alarms. Install them. Test them. Maintain them.
Happy Halloween from Welland Fire and Emergency Services

Guess who's back with a special Halloween edition of "I mustache you a question featuring Ernesto".
If you guessed "Ernesto" then you got it right.
Today, Ernesto finds out if flameless candles are safer to use in jack-o-lanterns than real candles are. (Spoiler: yes, they are)
Hey kids, don't forget to stop by @WellandFire HQ on East Main Streeton Halloween for a treat, a photo with a fire truck, and more.
Our doors will be open 4:30pm - 7:30pm
Smoke alarm shaped cookies for the first 100 trick-or-treaters.
Glow-in-the-dark cups for the first 200 kids
Thank you to @enbridgegas for the donation of 246 combination smoke & carbon monoxide alarms. The donation is part of Safe Community Project Zero - public education campaign with @FMPFSC which will see 14,500 alarms donated to 75 Ontario communities this year #ENBFuelingFutures
This weekend, we’d be really thankful if all of our friends, family, and followers were to practice good fire safety in the kitchen while preparing the Thanksgiving feasts.
Remember to stay in the kitchen & look while you cook. Never leaver cooking unattended.
We're now hiring a Fire Prevention Officer to fill a temporary vacancy. Qualified individuals who are interested in joining our fire prevention team on a short-term contract basis are encouraged to apply by Oct. 22, 2024 @ 4pm

It's #FirePreventionWeek and this year's theme is "Make smoke alarms work for you".
Welland Fire wants to remind you that only working smoke alarms can save lives. If you see our crews out in your neighborhood this week doing public education, please come say "Hi".
Fire Prevention Week 2024 runs from October 6 - 12. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work For You”.
Install them. Test them. Maintain them. Check the dates on them and replace them when they expire.
Make sure your smoke alarms are working for you & your family.
