My 2nd ed of Your Code as a Crime Scene is moving from ebook beta into production. Should be available in print in a month's time: https://t.co/S36kgLsOcF
I'm particularly happy with some of the new chapters like "Remediate Complicated Code", "Meet your Brain on Code", and "How Technical Problems Cause Organizational Issues".
It wasn't until I'd *taught* algorithms a few times that I finally understood why sorting is in the CS curriculum. Unfortunately, most curricula don't explain this!
It is NOT because sorting is an important algorithm to learn to implement...
3+ years into a pandemic, the general public is still generally confused about what to do when they test positive for COVID19.
So let me walk you through what I, an infectious disease epidemiologist public health nurse, am doing since I tested positive on a rapid antigen today.
Another blog post I've been sitting on for a while. A question I get asked often is how managers actually evaluate engineers. That's a long answer. But we can at least talk abut some expectations that engineers often overlook.

Let me be clear. This isn't about saying you have to listen to messages from any and everyone. Instead I'm saying something much simpler. People try to communicate the best way they can. They can strive to get better. But each of us can also get better at listening.
At some point I realized that learning to hear and understand people even when they're not communicating very well is a superpower. There is so much more knowledge and wisdom you gain access to when you stop being blocked because people aren't using the "right" words.
@AdamTornhill@tarkaTheRotter@kevin_peel If test code proves application code does what it says it does, and authentication code proves we are who we say we are, is there a way to spin this argument on its head?
E.g. “It’s ‘just’ authentication code”, so why do we pay so much attention to it?”
I started a meeting today by stating "I'm gonna ask some very basic questions. humor me."
and they did and now I know a lot more than I did yesterday.
Being honest about what I don't know and being brave enough to ask "silly" questions serves me quite well.
