It is so cold and rainy in LA that the Huntington reading room actually feels warm. Batten the hatches, folks-- if this isn't a sign the apocalypse is coming, idk what is.
A reminder for Midnights release day: dismissing things as "basic" is often code for hating something because the fanbase is majority female, which is just patriarchy in disguise. Leave us to enjoy with our masala chai lattes in peace ✨
I think I will forever more be known to the Huntington Reading Room as That Girl who jammed her finger and started bleeding (I'm fine, the materials are fine, it's all just FINE)
@tysongaskill Ah I sorted it out with a band-aid and alcohol wipe pulled from a seemingly never-before-used first aid kit and got on with it! So silly.
@IAmDylanLewis Surprisingly, there is ONE authentic Mexican restaurant in Dublin-- their cochinita pibil was on-par with my experiences growing up in SoCal! But in general, yeahhh, I refuse to get it outside of CA or Mexico
My neighbors hired a live band for their party this afternoon. This would be all well and good if the lead singer could actually hit any of the intended notes 🥴
@JulieLong18thC Castle Rackrent by Maria Edgeworth!! It is SO pointedly self-aware of its own textuality. I wrote my master's thesis about this, so I have a lot to say on the subject
New friend: wow, it must be great to spend your work day surrounded by books!
Me: Well, I often work from home...
NF: so.... you spend your day surrounded by books.
...
Fair play, sir.
Readerly types: were their big “cult classic”-type novels that circulated among friends when you were in high school?
Ones that everybody had to read so they could feel “in” with the group?
If so, which ones?
