Wells Code

Thoughtful software, shaped quietly for Apple devices.

[Wells Code @wellscode]

Why wallpapers? We've always loved the new one that arrives with each version of macOS, and wanted that feeling more often, in colours of our own choosing.

So we built Aurora. The story behind it, and a few things we love about it:

Aurora is out today, for Mac, iPhone and iPad.

It's a wallpaper studio, not a gallery. Pick one of ten styles, then shape and colour it until it's yours. Every design comes as a light and dark pair.

One purchase covers all three, with no subscription.

If you'd like to try Echo and help shape 1.0, we're inviting testers through Wells Code Preview:

[Wells Code @wellscode]

Meet Echo, our journal for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

A few lines, a photo, a mood or a place. Then come back through On This Day, the map, and a Review of each month told from what you wrote.

Now in TestFlight.

[Wells Code @wellscode]

After years of building, we're using our apps daily through TestFlight, on our own iCloud data.

Orbit for tasks, Echo for journalling, Beacon for reading, Circle for keeping in touch and Watchlist for YouTube.

Next: hearing what other people notice that we've stopped seeing.

[Wells Code @wellscode]

Beacon is nearly ready for launch, and we'd love a last round of TestFlight testers.

An RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac, with the Newspaper: the last day of your feeds as a front page.

Lifetime codes for some of our most helpful testers.

Calling all developers! Has anyone out there figured out a way to get .scrollEdgeEffectStyle(.soft) to work for macOS 27 or is this a bug with no workaround/fix?

[Wells Code @wellscode]

The tvOS app for Watchlist is coming along so nicely, and onboarding for the family looking great. Momentum is building! 🔥 Living and breathing and using these apps for the last few years while building them, watching them develop has been an awesome experience.

The beta is invite-only. Apply for the apps you’re interested in here; we’ll follow up with an invitation:

Orbit on iPhone Duo in closed, partly folded and fully open poses.

The extra room lets collections sit beside your tasks. I’m very keen to try the real thing - the Duo looks gamechanging! Only a few weeks to wait.

@iamvishal16_ios Thank you for your kind comment! When I was a child, I always knew I wanted to be a screenshot farmer when I grew up. 🥹

Getting somewhere good with the family for iPhone Duo. Making great progress each day in the various poses and orientations - and more than anything, really excited to hold and use this thing in the hand!

[Wells Code @wellscode]

Echo looks lovely on the folded display on the Duo. Working on some lovely touches with the stacks of images animating subtly as you scroll.

The apps are coming together nicely for the iPhone Duo! Here's how Orbit and Beacon look so far. Still deciding what to do with the floating plus button in Orbit - since it's draggable to insert tasks anywhere, not sure it can go in the right toolbar.

Here is the Reminders app on iPhone Duo. Notice how when you fold the device in, the sidebar and main area occupy one half each...

[Wells Code @wellscode]

The developer videos from Apple about the Duo apps are showing a LOT of interesting things. The UI moves toolbar items and more when the device is partially folded. This is going to be a challenge.

[Wells Code @wellscode]

Time to get ready for the iPhone Duo with our family of apps! Thankfully we're in pretty good shape already, but will be going hard to get them looking flawless.
