“I’ve noticed a few things in training lately. I’ve been trying to work on your movement but you seem really disinterested. You look distracted”

“To be honest I just don’t think that’s what I need right now. I don’t think movement is my problem.”

“Ok, you think I’m working on something that you’re already awesome at” (empathy statement)

“Well, I’m not gonna say I’m awesome, but I think I’m good”

“I think you are too. What do you think the difference between good and awesome is? (Divergent question...coach as guide)

“Probably being able to lose my marker a few more times a game I guess”

“I’d agree with that. What do you think you’ve got to do to improve that?” (Divergent question...coach as guide)

“I have to work physically to be a bit quicker off the mark. I also need to think about timing and direction of runs”

“Ok, I see what you’re saying there. With your permission I’d like to help you. What can I do to help?” (Divergent question...coach as follower...asking permission)

“Probably nothing during training as I find it distracting. But maybe we can work together after training on it?”

“Let’s do that. We’ll create some ideas together to help continue to work to awesome”
