I highly recommend this article to anyone who uses regression. Very helpful explanation of how to interpret partial regression coefficients, why the "answer" changes when you add more variables to your model, etc.

@UMNFuN @SachsLab The ineffective strain of rhizobia was not that closely related to the beneficial strain it was competive against—it was more closely related to the beneficial strains that it generally failed to compete against. Lots to ponder! Thanks for your interest :).
