grammy created the best asian pop category to leverage bts's huge reach and build prestige. by having bts win first, they hoped to motivate other asian acts (j-pop, k-pop, etc.) to compete, while conveniently keeping non-western artists out of the main general categories. (cr: .@SleepDeez)

also, introducing this category right in 2026, bts's comeback year as they dominate the usa market, seems far from a coincidence. this category was not created between 2022 and 2025 when bts was inactive, it was created right as bts is crushing grammy's favorites in their main market both commercially and critically by a landslide.

Sleep Deez, a well-respected producer who has worked with BTS, has confirmed via his inside source at the Grammys that BTS were, in fact, gonna be the guinea pigs/test dumbies/poster child for the "Asian Pop Performance" category.
