At the Selectboard meeting on Tuesday night (6/2/26), the board accepted a generous donation of a Purple Heart Monument from the DECA program students at Danvers High School, along with support from the Danvers Hometown Salute initiative.
DHS students and DECA members Ari Fajardo and Chase Richmond presented the project to the board, sharing how they successfully raised $10,000 to design, acquire, and install the monument. Unfortunately, a third student, Ashley Liporto, could not attend the meeting.
The monument will be placed in front of Town Hall (exact location to be determined).
Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible project as they become available.
THANK YOU, DHS AND DECA! ๐๏ธ๐

We Are Danvers - How Danvers Saved The Endicott Estate (now Endicott Park) From Development
Today, thousands of residents enjoy the trails, fields, farm animals, and open spaces of Endicott Park. But more than 60 years ago, the future of this cherished property looked very different.โ
Following the death of the Endicott family heirs, much of the former Endicott Estate was sold to a Boston developer. Plans called for the land to be transformed into a large residential subdivision, a proposal that would have dramatically changed one of Danvers' most historic and scenic landscapes. Faced with the prospect of losing the estate forever, town officials and residents rallied behind an ambitious effort to preserve the property for future generations. The campaign culminated in July 1964 when the Boston Globe reported that Danvers had successfully acquired approximately 130 acres of the estate for recreation and greenbelt purposes, ensuring the land would remain open rather than be covered with new homes. The purchase would ultimately form the foundation of what is now Endicott Park.

At the upcoming Selectboard meeting on Tuesday night (June 2nd at 6:30pm), a proposal will be presented by Director of Veterans Service Kelley Rayos-Teixeira to accept a Purple Heart monument as a gift from Danvers High School's DECA program students and the Danvers Hometown Salute initiative.
Danvers Hometown Salute is spearheaded by students Chase Raymond, Ari Fajardo, and Ashley Liporto. Through a successful fundraising effort that included a concert, merchandise sales, and community donations, they raised approximately $10,000 to design and acquire this monument in honor of Purple Heart recipients.
The proposed location for the monument's installation is at the front of Danvers Town Hall.
The group will ask for approval to:
1. Accept the Purple Heart Monument as a gift to the Town; and
2. Approve its installation at the front of Danvers Town Hall.
