The Guild Presidents Leadership Academy (GPLA) proudly participated in the Jukwaa La Wasomi National Students’ Leaders Summit held in Nairobi 🇰🇪, organized by @UcspakOfficial , the @InteriorKE and the @EduMinKenya.
GPLA was represented by Demiano Masesa @masdemian, Executive Director, and Laban Kato @Katolaban3, Program Manager & Guild Leaders Summit Coordinating Lead.
In their remarks, they underscored the urgent need for young people across East Africa to unite more than ever before, building solidarity, shared purpose, and collective action toward peace, security, and integration in our region.
The conference convened student leaders, Deans of Students, and Security Administrators from over 300 Institutions to discuss strategies for safeguarding learning environments and fostering youth participation in governance and national resilience.
We thank the University of Nairobi @uonbi through the Dean of Students @irerikinyua for the invitation.

Today Parliament has passed the proposal to borrow up to EUR 168,976,354 from UKEF & Citi Bank for the development of Solar Powered Irrigation System Project Phase II.
In my brief to Parliament i said the proposed project will develop 427 irrigation systems across the country, adding that the project is aimed at enhancing rural incomes through increased production and productivity arising from irrigated agriculture for coffee growing.
The goal of this project therefore is to contribute to increased yields of coffee production through provision of water for irrigation in 126 districts.
To date, phase 1 of the project has achieved over 99% physical completion with 434 systems developed across the country delivering verifiable economic benefits countrywide.
I added that Collectively, these initiatives have enhanced water security and productivity for 206,465 households and a total population of 908,447 across Uganda.
To justify phase 2 of this project, the effects of climate change are continuing to escalate and the available water resources for agricultural production are constantly decreasing, adding that farmers are losing a lot of crops due to prolonged dry seasons and this in turn affects their livelihoods.
I noted that the project is expected to directly benefit about 2,562 households, translating to approximately 11,785 direct beneficiaries.
The project will leverage and strengthen existing extension service infrastructure at sub-county, parish, and district levels in Uganda, working through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) extension programmes and Coffee Department.
Beginning FY 2026/27, Finance Minister @henrymusasizi1 has announced that an additional Shs 568.65 billion has been allocated to enhance salaries for primary school teachers and Arts teachers in secondary schools and BTVET institutions.
Here are the expenditure allocations for the various priority areas, reflecting government’s continued commitment to strategic investment in infrastructure, human capital development, agriculture, security, and other key sectors aimed at driving inclusive growth and improving service delivery.
