All 4 gospels say women found the empty tomb first, in that culture, women’s testimony wasn’t seen as legally credible. No one fabricating a story picks that detail on purpose because it would only hurt their message. It only makes sense if it’s just what happened.

I would start with Paul’s creed, dated within 2-5 yrs of the crucifixion by skeptical scholars too, lists named witnesses + 500 people at once “most of whom are still alive”, that’s a testable claim circulating while people could check it.

I have an atheist family memeber who says the resurrection was likely made up.

And if the Peter & Paul believed it, it could just be a vision, a real resurrection would have much more documentation.

What’s the best response?

hallucinations tend to be private not shared. And James (Jesus’s skeptical brother) and Paul (a persecutor of Christians) both did total 180s and died for this. People don’t die for a vision they know was just in their head or that they made up.

@leopoldleoja Well of course. I just mean I am on promoting and debating Wesleyan/Methodist theology. I don’t advocate for any specific Methodist tradition, so long as it’s orthodox.

@leopoldleoja Wherever the word is rightly preached and sacraments rightly administered. Both the UMC and GMC have strong traditional local congregations even though I have concerns about the denominational trajectory of both bodies.

My focus is showing the theology is more than rainbow flags
