However, they, like communists, also supported intellectuals who shared their views.
Much like people today who select voices who confirm their own biases.

Paxton devoted his entire carrier teaching about fascism, WWII Europe and Vichy France.

The Nazis, like many people today, catered to intellectuals they could use for their cause, and rejected those they couldn't.
