scenes where they portrayed misogyny in a lighter way were sadly in every 90s show (especially in one done by joss whedon) and it's obviously terrible but you all pick when to ignore it or not depending on if you like the character or not

imao this just isn't true. ats also acknowledge wesley's misogyny (more than angel's sometimes by the way). spike got a whole redemption arc after he sexually assaulted buffy and got more focus on that than buffy did

to the people offended subtweeting me for this, this tweet explained it perfectly. "so spike and angel are better than [insert random ugly man]??" no, but the show acknowledges the misogyny of the supposed bad guys, and washes the one from the "good guys"

he literally has a "downfall" arc and they have other characters calling him out too, that some people thought his arc was becoming a "badass" doesn’t mean that it was protrayed like that

people think the show portrayed wesley as a good guy, just because he was never entirely a villain, but i think the show was well aware of his flaws and portrayed him more as an antihero

@slayercomma yeah! my problem is with people acting like liking one is problematic but liking the other one is not, you can like a character that isn’t a good person and it doesn't make you problematic

wesley is protrayed in ats as an antihero, not entirely a good guy, they compared him with judas and he literally ends up in hell but anyway

@candescentfiend exactly!! but even then i don't think the show protrayed wesley/fred dynamic as the best option entirely, like with the illyria thing later on, it was seen as him having an unhealthy attachment to her

why is liking wesley weird but everyone loves spike in the buffy fandom (they are both just as terrible, the only difference is that spike is more charismatic)

@candescentfiend exactly!! me personally i don't ship wesley with fred because of this even if i like wesley but i do think he's a complex character worth analizing and not just a nice guy and i think the show was aware of his flaws
