I went to secondary school in Barkin Ladi 20 years ago. This is what SS1 - 3 boys were doing, night shifts in the blistering cold. I did it too. My mates in Oyo were sleeping or studying. I’ve watched this shit deteriorate in real time.

Barkin Ladi now looks nothing like it did when I graduated 14 years ago. I went to the same junction we used to buy stuff during outings last year & I was shaking. They don’t speak the same language. Crisis after crisis. Slowly, the people who used to till those lands are now doing menial jobs in the south. The names of the villages have changed. The senator representing that region was killed few days after I graduated when he attended a mass funeral of people who were massacred by the Fulanis who now occupy their homes. 14 years ago guys.

Trying to raise awareness about this state-backed conquest feels like screaming under water.

Few months ago, my aunt in mangu came to ask for money to trade cause she can’t farm anymore. Their farms were attacked 3 years ago. They wouldn’t dare go back.

For more than 10 years, we’ve had internally displaced persons from Borno living in our house, after my mother took them in. They only go back to their so-called homes for funerals. 3 brilliant kids; Elizabeth, Margaret and Grace (named after my now late mother for her benevolence). The dad does security work, the mom cleans. Who knows what they could’ve made of themselves back home? I do, they’d have been compost for aliens.

It always starts small then it spirals out of control. We’ve seen all kinds of terror. I wish they just came and shot people but that’s not fun enough. Bullets are for runners. They’ll slice pregnant women open to kill their fetuses. They’ll feed women their kid’s fingers. They burn people alive, hack them with machetes. When people try to defend themselves, that’s when soldiers come in. They call it farmer-herder clashes. They say cattle was rustled. Cattle was rustled? That’s why you renamed my village and put 200 people in a mass grave ?

I remember @YarKafanchan saying that she wept after the 2015 elections cause she knew her people would die like flies & then what happened in southern kaduna? When people talk, they say where’s the evidence? But what about the bodies? Dying is a morbid thing to be skilled at but boy, we have experience.

We’ve seen “strategists” platform them and defend all manner of wrongdoing on the alter of political correctness.

It looked exactly like every other crypto project.. Because that was the point..

Undercover agents posed as the founding team.. Then reached out to professional market-making firms and said "we need you to fake our trading volume"..

Every single firm said yes..

Here's what they recorded..

Gotbit.. A firm run by a 26-year-old Russian who publicly bragged in 2019 that he built a business faking trade volumes.. His team kept internal spreadsheets with columns literally labeled "fake volume" vs "market volume"..

When asked how fast they could pump NexFundAI's volume to $1 million per day.. They said "6 hours.. It will cost about $200"..

$200 to fake $1 million in daily trading volume..

MyTrade.. Run by a guy who called himself "the mastermind".. He explained the exact psychology of the scam on camera..

"We make the chart look like a really nice roller coaster ride.. That's where people jump in.. We have to make them lose money in order to make profit"..

He said that on a recorded FBI video call..

CLS Global.. A Dubai-based firm.. Their bots generated 98% of NexFundAI's total trading volume.. When the FBI asked if they could sync fake volume spikes with fake news announcements.. They said absolutely..

ZM Quant.. Bots executing 10 to 20 trades per minute through dozens of wallets to look organic..

All of them knew it was fraud.. All of them did it anyway.. All of it was recorded..

And the clients were even worse..

Saitama.. A meme coin that hit $7.5 billion market cap.. The founders coordinated buys through private Telegram chats.. Sent "pump it" memes while manipulating the price.. Then dumped on retail investors..

$7.5 billion.. Built entirely on fake volume.. Every penny of real money came from retail investors who thought the momentum was organic..

One founder left Saitama and started Robo Inu.. Used Gotbit again.. Another launched VZZN.. Same playbook..

Lillian Finance.. Founder claimed to be a defense contractor who addressed Congress.. Marketed the token as funding children's hospitals.. Pocketed everything..

When the FBI shut it down.. They seized $25 million in one day.. 18 people indicted across the US, UK, and Portugal.. The CEO of Gotbit was arrested in Portugal and extradited.. Sentenced to 8 months plus $23 million forfeiture..

But here's the part that broke my brain..

Real people bought NexFundAI..

The FBI's fake token.. With zero utility.. Zero real developers.. Created solely to catch criminals.. Attracted real retail investors because the fake volume made the chart look bullish..

When the FBI pulled the liquidity to end the operation.. Those people lost real money.. On a government-issued token..

The FBI had to set up a restitution portal to pay them back..

And it gets worse..

Within 24 hours of the DOJ announcing the sting.. Someone cloned the FBI's exact smart contract.. Launched a copycat token.. Rode the viral momentum.. And made $127,000 in a single day..

Using the exact same manipulation tactics the FBI just arrested 18 people for..

Then in 2026.. The FBI did it again.. New token called Lexobit.. 10 more arrests.. Including operators extradited from Singapore..

IRS forensics showed that in one firm's trading.. 1,209 out of 1,221 consecutive transactions went straight back to wallets the firm controlled.. 99% circular..

The FBI proved what everyone in crypto suspected..

The volume is fake.. The charts are painted.. The momentum is manufactured..

And every time you buy a token because "the chart looks bullish".. You might be the exit liquidity.

I'll also say this as someone who grew up on the nice side of the barbed wire fences and high gates in the very nice part of town where the Nigerian 0.1% live - learn to touch grass and worry about yourself because rich people really do not care about you. Like, at all.

The Nigerian rich don't even like each other. They barely tolerate one another and make practical alliances to preserve wealth and influence. And now that the economy is too small to support all the children of the Nigerian 0.1%, nearly everyone I grew up with in the nice, leafy part of town now lives in Toronto or London or wherever. You, Mr N250k/month Union Bank contract staff are not part of rich people's thinking at all.

At. All.

The rich have no plans for you. They have no plans to create opportunities for you. They have no plans to fix the things they broke on their way to building that N1bn townhouse in Parkview Estate. They have no plans to contribute towards making society better. If Satan came from Hell with a tail and horns growing out of his head and he ran for political office, the rich would all go make deals with him - because in the world of the rich, the only thing that matters is their own interests, and making sure that they never, EVER have to live like you or next to you.

So all this simping and vicarious fawning over wealth and fame that you people do everyday is the most redundant thing in the world - the rich have no intention of expanding their circle to let you in, and they have no intention of enabling the conditions for you to create your own independent circle of wealth. The only thing the rich need from you is to be poor and obedient, so that your labour can be cheap, plentiful and replaceable.

Statistically as a Nigerian, you will NEVER be rich or close to it. You will NEVER live in Maitama. 99.99% of Nigerians who have existed since 1960 have prayed and fantasised about becoming rich, and 99.99% of those prayers and fantasies never came true. That's just math. You will never be a rich and famous celebrity. You will never be a successful content creator. You will never make millions shilling crypto, trading Forex, sports betting, or whatever the fuck is the latest quick wealth fantasy in town. It's just not going to happen.

That being the case, a much more constructive use of your time would be to fight for the material elevation of what you actually have, where you actually have it. Instead of daydreaming about the N300m house in Lekki that 3 generations of your family cannot buy, get involved in a local effort to give your own immediate neighbourhood a facelift, or a political campaign to pressure the state to build high quality social housing.

If you hate being harassed without consequence online, instead of vicariously enjoying how a celebrity has used their wealth and influence to jail someone for making a horrid tweet, fight for a judiciary and legal system that is transparent and accessible to all, so that a singer living in the UK on a global talent visa doesn't get to have more access to your Nigerian justice system than you who lives in Nigeria 24/7.

Instead of building your mental architecture around the false idea of being a "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" who will someday take your rightful place on Banana Island, touch grass tonight and accept that it will never happen, and what you need to do instead is fight for where you are to become a better, more liveable place that you no longer wish to escape from. Stop cosplaying as rich folk. Stop cooing and fawning over rich folk. Stop daydreaming about someday "blowing up" and buying a house next to Burna Boy. Rich people have no intention of sharing their world with you. Free yourself from the tyranny of living vicariously through people who don't care that you exist.

Them no really send any part of your papa at all.

This story may not be true but I know that one of the things Dangote and Otedola has in common is there animosity for Tony Elumelu.

In 2005, Charles soludo - the CBN governor mandated all commercial banks to provide 25 Billion naira to stay in business

Tony Elumelu ran to Otedola to support him in acquiring UBA that was struggling to meet the mandate, and he was given $20m in exchange for shares.

When Otedola wanted to liquidate his UBA shares 2years later, Tony convinced him to hold it

Then in 2008, Otedola went Bankrupt and his supposed friend Tony didn’t hesitate to collect all his UBA shares to offset Otedola debt to UBA.

Again in 2012, Otedola told Tony about his plan to Acquire a particular power plant, Tony went behind his back to buy it 😂

The Transcorp issues nko?? When Otedola tried to take over Transcorp from Tony, he secretly bought 5% of Transcorp and when Tony found out, he rallied around and increase his shares to 25% stopping the hostile takeover

Then he used an American firm to buy Otedola’s 5%

before you come for me, give me 45 seconds of your time.

i don’t mean you didn’t earn it. i mean something specific that made me angry when someone told me the same thing, and only made sense to me much later when i sat down and thought honestly about my own life. (even while writing this, i don’t really still believe in luck)

someone called my progress luck and i was ready to fight. i thought about the years i sacrificed, the nights i didn’t sleep, the times i kept going when nothing was working. then i realized something - imagine a version of me that didn’t have the necessary access or tools he won’t achieve same result or maybe better (who knows?)

think about it someone else have repeated similar path on other projects and didn’t get any better result.

luck is not only a coin flip. luck is the entire stage you were placed on before the play even started. the country some were born in, the year you were born, the family that fed you while you figured things out, the friend who happened to retweet your work to the right person, the people that onboarded you. you didn’t choose any of those. they chose you.

researchers studied this with hockey players in canada and found something that stops you cold. 40% of pros in the top leagues were born in january, february, or march. only 10% in october, november, december. being born early in the year makes you four times more likely to play professionally.

the reason is that kids leagues start the season in january. the kids born early are slightly bigger and faster than kids born late in the same group. coaches give them more attention, more game time, better tournaments. that tiny edge compounds(luck) for fifteen years until they reach the NHL.

ask any of those players how they made it. they will say discipline, training, waking up at 5am. none of them will say january. but january is why they are there.

your january exists somewhere too. mine does. diana’s does. it’s the thing you didn’t choose that made the work you did choose actually pay off. someone else, working just as hard, with the wrong january, didn’t get the same return.

this isn’t an attack on effort. effort is required. you cannot luck your way past someone who is genuinely prepared when the door opens. but in a world where ten thousand equally hungry, equally talented, equally relentless people are pushing on the same door, something has to decide which one of them gets through.

successful people almost never see their luck. not because they are dishonest. because the brain doesn’t store luck. it stores effort. you remember the hours. you don’t remember the ten quiet moments where things could have gone the other way and didn’t.

so the story you tell yourself, and everyone else, edits luck out completely.

diana, you earned your spot. and something put you on the right stage to earn it. both are true.

the people who refuse to admit the second half are the ones who look at someone else struggling and assume that person just didn’t want it badly enough.
