Why do we call them fairy-wrens? #birds

Europeans first encountered fairy-wrens in Jan 1777 on Tasmania's Bruny Island, during James Cook's third voyage. William Anderson, the Scottish naturalist aboard the HMS Resolution, was delighted by one of the island's colourful birds.

The migratory Common Sandpiper was recorded for the 1st time near the Westgate Punt landing on the Yarra by our bird survey group in January.
The Common Sandpiper breeds in Eurasia and faces many threats on its migration. It found a place here.
