We conduct an annual census of people experiencing homelessness in our service area using the LASHA census method. The number of people experiencing homelessness in our area started at 244 in 2021, dropped to 198 in 2022 and is currently at 157 in 2023, a 38% decline over 2 years

Last month WLAH hosted our first corporate volunteer event. Volunteers packed snack bags of non perishable foods, which is a frequent request at the weekly shower event.

WLAH partners with the city to on weekly mobile showers and much-needed supplies for homeless neighbors. Rochelle is part of the team with Shower of Hope operating the shower unit. She always has a smile and words of encouragement for those in need. We appreciate you, Rochelle

On average, homeless people walk at least 10 miles per day. Often their only pair of shoes is the wrong size or worn through. To help alleviate this critical need, a shoe retailer recently donated dozens of new athletic shoes to WLAH for distribution to our unhoused neighbors.

We shared a video of Junior thanking us for helping to clean up Cotner, but we want to give a special thank you to Junior, Mehdi, Ryan, and all of the residents who came out to the clean up. We could not have done it without everyone’s assistance and wonderful attitudes.

WLAH seeks to coordinate events and volunteers to provide services and essentials to our homeless neighbors. Recently we’ve been doing so through cleaning up trash with the Westwood Rotary and encampment residents. Thank you so much to all who lend a helping hand!

Easter was a busy time of the year for WLAH this year! Not only did we welcome new board members, we also welcomed a new TPC social worker, Tiffany! Tiffany joined us at the weekly shower event where we supplied some special holiday treats for attendees.

Recently, we’ve been partnering with the local Rotary Club to clean up trash on Cotner Avenue. The folks who live there worked well into the night before we arrived, and many were there working side by side with us and keeping things lively by providing music.

In the month of January we connected one of our long-time clients to permanent housing! We met this individual in May of last year, and they moved into their brand new unit in February! Our team will be following up and making sure they comfortably acclimate to their new home

Our social workers have been hard at work over the winter months. They assisted clients with document readiness to ensure eligibility for housing matches. They connected with new clients and reconnected with the UCLA Community Health medical outreach team.
