Today we remember the D-Day landings at Normandy. We honor those WWII Veterans who took part in Operation Overlord by storming beaches and parachuting behind enemy lines. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice.
In the Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi, Japan, a wisteria tree is often referred to as “the most beautiful in the world.”
At around 150 years old, the massive tree is stunning when in full bloom.

80 years ago today: American and allied forces invade Normandy during Operation Overlord, to liberate France and defeat Nazi Germany. More than 4,400 allied soldiers were killed and more than 10,000 wounded.
I’m thankful to President Biden for making the trip to memorialize them. We owe these heroes a debt that can never be repaid.
It’s sobering to acknowledge that this will likely be the last milestone remembrance at Normandy any D-Day veteran will attend.
Each one of these leaders has an important perspective on what needs to be done to improve women’s health and wellbeing.
As part of my new $1 billion commitment to advance women’s power globally, these leaders will each receive a $20 million fund to distribute to charitable organizations of their choice. I can’t wait to see the landscape of opportunities to support women and girls through their eyes.
Day in and day out, these organizations are leading extraordinary efforts to protect women’s rights and advance their power and influence in the United States. But for far too long, organizations focused on women and girls have been chronically underfunded—and forced into a defensive posture while the enemies of progress play offense. As part of my new $1 billion commitment to advance women’s power globally, I’m moving substantial resources to help supercharge the vital work of these organizations.
