Private George Crowshaw joined the Loyal North Lancs Regt in Sept 1914. He served for the full term of the war, being demobilized as a reservist on the 15th April 1919. Unfortunately he died at home, 43 days later. CWGC headstone - Walmsley Church, Bolton. #WW1 #Bolton

Image from Ashford in the Water, Derbyshire. Pte Jasper Johnson was awarded the Military Medal for actions completed in June 1918. Jasper was wounded in June and sadly died of his wounds on the 1st August 1918 @ 1st Northern General Hospital in Newcastle. #Derbyshire #WW1

On a drive through the small Cumbrian village of Storth, I noticed this war memorial. It is dedicated to 8 people from the village who died serving in WW1, 7 who died serving in WW2 and 1 who died during the Korean War.

On this day - 21/04/1917 the 13th Battalion Cheshire regiment were placed at the disposal of the 105th Field Company of the Royal Engineers in Neuve Eglise. 400 men were provided for work on front line & communications trenches & strong points. The work was done by day & night.

On this day - 21/04/1916. The 1/7 Durham Light Infantry battalion were in Scherpenberg. A company was working on rebuilding an obsolete support line, but were interrupted continuously by machine gun and artillery fire. A considerable amount of work was still carried out.

On this day - 19th April 1918. The 1/1 Battalion, East Lancs Mobile Veterinary Section was in Oneux, near the town of Abbeville, France. The war diary shows limited information, but confirms they admitted 4 sick animals and evacuated 6.

I have also been researching Pte 11135 Harry Hornby of the 8th then 9th Btn, Cheshire Regiment. Served in Gallipoli with the 8th Btn before joining the 9th Btn in France. Died during the Battle of the Somme in July 1916. Report completed.

I have been researching Pte 26623 Thomas L Lewis of the 6th Btn, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry who died 31/07/1918 during the German Spring Offensive. Report complete.
