Not every education question is an education research question; know your ed research ? early & determine if you are addressing the “why” you are seeing learning outcomes you see - great suggestions from Dr Kevin Eva @MedEd_Journal who gave great tips to @AtriumHealthWFB#MedEd
In the last segment of #HPEI Dec Education GRs we learn how to interpret assessment data (for MCQ exams) using difficulty (p), discrimination index (DI), p+DI, & point biserial data and some benchmarks from Kristin Lindaman Ass Prof @WakeForest_PA.
Dr Courtney Brown from @AtriumHealthWFB CRNA & Academic Nursing teaches at #HPEI Education GRs how to write a great test question/item: focus on single problem, avoid TMI, use homogenous distractors, don’t overlap answers, avoid cueing, write Q’s across Bloom’s taxonomy.
When building a house, you start with a blueprint; when building an exam you also start with a blueprint - which helps to use the right assessment for the right learner at the right time - precision education! @AtriumHealthWFB
The #HPEI is learning from Dr Kim Askew as a part of this quarter’s Education Grand Rounds on “Making Sense of Assessment” about the role of Bloom’s taxonomy in generating learning objectives and aligning with learning outcomes. This schema helps us blueprint an exam.
@RxWritersUnite Great Tips for writing success: don’t be afraid of having a writing MENTOR, when you sit down to write take a breath & check your EMOTIONAL REGULATION, REFLECT on previous errors, be ORIGINAL and stay true to your writing approach, don’t be afraid to ADAPT. #HappyWriting
Precept w/ RESPECT: Respect learners, Elicit thoughts, Social -check on learner well being, Power -share power/help learner carve their own path, Empathy -address emotions, talk about emotional ride of learning, Concerns -elicit learner concerns, Trust -this is when learners grow
The HPEI Education Grand Rounds kicks off the ‘21-22 year w/ a session on “Precepting:Maximizing Education while Maintaining Sanity” w/ @CliffGonzales6@IMJessValente Bryan Geigler @WakeForest_PA & Beth Tysinger @AtriumHealthWFB. We can still improve this time honored instruction
Be sure to check out in-Training: 2020 In Our Own Words. It is a collection of manuscripts from medical students about their experiences throughout the year 2020. Thank you for allowing me to create the artwork for such an important project @ravsONravsONrav@InTrainingDoc
Great study and great take from @mededdoc’s on it. A survey is a conversation - be careful of violating conversational norms. When you are designing your survey, think about having a conversation with the survey takers.
T -12 minutes & counting... #MedEd@SoniaCrandall
BTW, I'll reference this classic study, which is super interesting. But I have a different conclusion than @basindtla et al. because, remember, a survey is a conversation & conversational norms apply (or at least they should)...
Such a privilege to hear reflections from @CameronWebb46 on his path from Wake Forest to the White House and how #MedEd can infuse passion for social justice, unlock potential of #futuredocs, foster interest in advocacy, and mentor the next generation to deliver care with equity
