Australian Stock Horse Society Campdraft, Katherine, Northern Territory. It’s a lot cooler at this time of year up north so it’s the ideal time for campdrafts, rodeos, bronco busting , etc. 7am start just after sunrise makes for soft, sideways light.

Taken from the beach at Cape Hillsborough … a place where the rainforest meets the sea. We love this corner of Queensland where you can chat to the Kangaroos on the beach.

Dorze Village, Ethiopia

We stayed in a hut up in the hills above the town of Arba Minch in Ethiopia for a couple of nights. At around 1,500 metres above sea level the air is cooler and the vegetation is lush. This is a view over a community of the Dorze people.

Managed an early morning stroll on the beach this morning. So good! We have been here for a couple of weeks now with one more to go before we continue heading north a bit. Just love this part of Queensland … so much to see.

Two Zebra

Apart from making them difficult to see when you are driving down a dirt track on a dark night their stripes apparently serve another purpose. In the heat of the day the juxtaposition of the black and white stripes apparently create air flows that help keep them cool.

Hippo

Taken from a boat on the Chobe River which forms the border between Botswana and Namibia, although it’s a bit tricky keeping track of which island belongs to which country. Doesn’t seem to bother the wildlife though, of which there is plenty.

We drove west from Kasane along the border between Botswana and Namibia for a while until we found a spot to camp. This was our view across the border looking at Namibia. I took this shot with a couple of African Fish Eagles early one morning.

Street Scene from Harar

It’s not an especially impressive place but it has a long history starting with its founding in the 13th Century. The narrow laneways are fascinating but it wasn’t an easy place to photograph.
