Racers Empower and Pet Therapy. Two great programs held together this week in Alexander Hall. It was a de-stressful event. Look for these to take place next semester.
I attended Dr. Gomez’s middle school class yesterday. The students were so energized, engaged, inquisitive, and proud. Dr. Gomez did everything but dance on the tables. What a leader! His students love him. It’s a beautiful day, you know!
The student KEA chapter, with adviser Holly Bloodworth, held a festive, community-based, and child focused Santa’s workshop in Alexander Hall. Santa led the way with many MSU student elves. It was jolly and holly, with book readings, dancing, singing, and much, much more.
Dr. Todd and I attended the first Rotary Impact Scholars signing day at the Christian County School District Board room. Rotary scholarship plus 3 year commitment to teach means a successful “Grow Your Own” program. Congratulations to all!
Mary Ford Holland was the first African American student at Murray State. She enrolled in the College of Education and received her teaching certificate. We have this painting and plaque proudly displayed in Alexander Hall.
Just had a chance to participate in our regional Ed Rising conference. 236 high school students from 14 different schools. Congratulations to our TQI faculty and staff for such an exciting event. We even had a browsing fair. Let’s count this as a big win!
Drs. Samir Patel, Katy Hancock and I had a chance to tour Fulton County HS yesterday and to meet with faculty, staff, and students. Many thanks to Principal Murphy for setting this up. We met with 30 students interested in coming to MSU. It was a good day.
Now I am visiting Tressa Ross’ Transition class. Tressa provided a good orientation to current events on campus. Then, helping students with registration holds. A good start to this class! A good class; an excellent teacher. Nice to have Christian Barnes as guest speaker.
I had the chance to visit Dr. Kim Vigil’s class this morning. Wonderful science lesson. Great students. Great teacher. This group will be student teaching next semester. Our children are in good hands!
Dr.Sean Simons and Dr.Jessica Branch have successfully organized and hosted a community event focused on Autism Spectrum Disorder. Pet therapy was also involved. It is a great day to have this event. Lots of representatives from mental health clinics and school psych programs.
Enjoying the fish fry following the Sparks Lecture. Many thanks to Dr. Jackson who delivered tonight’s lecture. Outstanding presentation on the early history of Murray State University. We were also able to recognize outstanding educators. Happy National Teacher Appreciation Day!
I am attending the Business and Marketing CTE advisory committee meeting. The meeting is led by Dr. Kemaly Parr and is well attended. Teachers, administrators, KDE consultants, and students are in attendance. Pleased to hear about the increase in student enrollments in all areas.
Late yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Miguel Gomez’s class. His students will soon be student teaching. The students gave presentations and Dr. Gomez led them through an excellent analysis of their practicum experiences. Dr. Gomez is one of our “rock star” faculty!
