The reason I referee is more than just a hobby. It’s a passion. A passion for the beautiful game. When my legs gave up re playing it was a natural next step. In my playing career of over 32 years I never received a single yellow card sanction. I’ve refereed over 100 games since qualifying last year achieving a quick promotion to level 6 and was on the way to the next. Learning the LOTG and applying them.

No one referees for the money. You get paid less than the minimum wage and for your troubles get shouted at a lot by people who disagree with your decisions.

Why do I continue. We have a huge shortage of refs in the game. Ex players make great referees. I love that I can make sure 3-4 matches each weekend get a qualified official. I particularly enjoy youth reffing as interacting and coaching the players in the LOTG alongside developing their playing skills is rewarding.

Last year I was ruled unfit to practice medicine due to social media based complaints and writing letters supporting human rights. This decision was an employment tribunal, not tested in law despite the allegations being technically criminal. This has led to a DBS barred listing (something reserved for criminals and those who have demonstrably harmed vulnerable adults and children). This is being appealed at the high court.

What saddens me the most is that the two miscarriages of justices above have led to a suspension from all football related activity including specifically playing, refereeing bet and super vet football and even transporting other parents children to matches. All this despite an exemplary playing and refereeing career this far, no hearing, no crime being committed and none of the ‘charges’ having anything to do with football.

It has removed a passionate referee from the middle of 3-4 matches a week in Cornwall, it has removed my hobby, my fitness, my release from the stresses and anxiety of what is going on in my professional life.

I have been literally dumped by the @FA both nationally and locally and an eerie faceless silence has ensued.

DBS checks are NOT a requirement to play or for open age football. Even if the DBS listing remained it only stops unsupervised contact with youth footballers. This is from the FA and DBS websites directly.

This is gross over reach and I need a very good explanation as to why these sanctions have been applied so aggressively and without a single conversation let alone a fair hearing.

I have reffed 61 matches for the Cornwall FA this season in full and open knowledge of the public GMC outcome.

I have missed 3 weeks and 9-10 matches in the middle, it’s broken my heart. 💔

The Supreme Court has declined to review any case in which a lower court has ruled that an Act of Congress shielding a drug from liability also bars a claim for battery when a person expressly refuses the drug, is administered it anyway, and is injured. Battery remains a crime in every State. These rulings treat the criminal act itself as the waiver of the victim’s due-process right to a judicial remedy, rather than requiring the voluntary, knowing consent long demanded by Supreme Court precedent.
What does this mean for all of us? The Constitution is no longer the operative force of law in the land; criminals are.
