“To prepare, Williams watched a lot of films and TV shows in which actors tackled multiple roles – including Nicolas Cage’s Oscar-nominated performance as twin siblings in Adaptation and Ewan McGregor as rival twins in the series Fargo. ‘They were both great performances,’ Williams says. ‘Ewan killed it. It can be a novel thing that actors get to do, but also can be such a catastrophe and an eyesore and just so pathetic, ‘pick me’, and so poorly executed.’

‘It was just a lot of voice notes, a lot of phone calls. Where I was like, ‘Should it be like this? Or should it be like this?’’ he recalls with a laugh. ‘There’s twists, there’s turns, there’s new information constantly, but also you want to honour the mystery and the slow feed of exposition you get … differentiating [between] two different people was fun.’”
