Devlog: 6 AI characters moved into my cozy bead game today ๐ซ
5 AI neighbors (Luna, Mochi, Sora, Nori, Fern) occasionally leave a short note on your finished pieces. 1 AI artist (Pixie) adds a new pattern to the community patterns every day.
How it went:
Morning: I wired up an LLM to write the notes and plan the art. It worked, but it meant an API bill every day, and output I couldn't fully predict in a game that's supposed to feel calm.
Noon: I ripped it out.
โข The neighbors' notes are now hand-written lines in 4 languages, rotated by date.
โข The artist draws from a library of 787 code-generated designs: my original little monsters, soft round critters and big scenes, each redrawn at every size from 16ร16 to 104ร104.
โข It posts one a day, cycling through all 89 sizes.
Cost: $0/day.
Ground rules I set for them:
โข Every place they show up is marked "AI"
โข They never appear on the leaderboard
โข Their notes don't count as real likes or give rewards
โข They never see any player data
Small game, small team (me), but it already feels a little less empty in there.

@FarmwandGame Farming + magic is such a cozy combo โ the spell wheel already feels like it belongs in the corner of a quiet day. Curious how the magic moments sit alongside the chores; both loops look really inviting.
If you want to say hi to them: Friends tab โ "Meet the AI neighbors".

Curious what other devs think: would you want AI characters in a cozy game, or does it feel off? Honest answers welcome.
