REAL ID | Why Did Senator Rand Paul’s Office Say This?

Last week, we noticed an unexpected announcement in U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s official newsletter.

“Starting May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license… If your license isn’t REAL ID-compliant (look for the star at the top), now’s the time to upgrade it.”

The push to get a REAL ID by Paul’s office caught us by surprise. Senator Paul has been a strong opponent of the Unique Patient Identifier (UPI) and his father, Congressman Ron Paul, was one of the strongest voices against a National ID system.

As chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which governs the TSA and its REAL ID office, Senator Paul could stop the unconstitutional REAL ID in its tracks.

Therefore, we have questions:

· Does Senator Paul know this messaging went out under his name?

·  Are TSA communications creeping into the offices of even the most ardent protectors of freedom?

We continue to respect and appreciate Senator Paul’s work to protect liberty — which is why this matters. The REAL ID Act isn’t just a star on your license — it’s a NATIONAL ID system. It’s the cornerstone of a rapidly emerging digital biometric-controlled surveillance infrastructure. Members of Congress should shut it down.
