Plans to build the world's first octopus factory farm have been withdrawn.
Nueva Pescanova planned to confine one million octopuses a year at a facility in the Canary Islands -- packing these solitary, territorial animals at up to fifteen per cubic meter of tank.
They then planned to kill them by submerging them in ice water -- a painful, stressful, slow death.
They pitched the farm as "sustainable" because it would "reduce pressure on fishing grounds." But it would have required catching millions of fish to feed the octopuses.
Animal advocates have stopped this. Now we need to make sure no octopus factory farm gets built anywhere else in the world.
If you need further proof of how the living, feeling animals who become "food" are treated like nothing but property, just look at how they're literally spray-painted. 😡

Poor sheep harassed and beaten.
From death trucks into an animal slave vessel.
To be deported for barbaric slaughter.

This week 20,000 pigs burned to death in a factory farm fire in Ontario.
They haven't let photographers inside. But here's what another pig factory farm looked like after it burned.
It's hard to imagine the suffering of these intelligent, sensitive animals — trapped, without any means of escape or hope of help, as the flames engulfed them.
It's harder to imagine the greed of an industry too cheap to even install sprinkler systems.
We are imprisoned in what you call "zoos." We do not like these enclosed spaces and the lack of stimulation. We hate these places.

New drilling in the North Sea isn't just a catastrophic signal of us stepping back from our climate commitments, it also runs against the geological reality of an almost depleted resource.
Our focus should be on cheap, clean fuel for the future - not propping up oil and gas.
‘Broken on the wall’👺You can see by the big stain and damaged wall that many horses were tortured here 💔Humans should stay away from animals forever. Stop using and abusing animals #LiveVegan 🌱 live in peace ✌️
He is a fully conscious baby chick about to fall into an industrial macerator to be ground up alive.
Why? He's male, so he's "useless" to the Egg Industry. This happens to MILLIONS every year.
The world needs to know the truth about #eggs. 😡
13 baby macaques were rescued after traffickers allegedly killed their mothers & stole them from the wild in Sumatra. Found crammed into a box, one infant was too weak to survive. The 12 survivors are now recovering with support from LFT & JAAN. https://t.co/SRMvjEio6G
This extreme weather isn't a one-off. It's part of a dangerous new norm.
The oil and gas companies fuelling the climate crisis - and driving up your energy bills - shouldn't be funding our politics.
I've tabled an Amendment to ban oil and gas donations to political parties.
Heatwave kills hundreds of thousands of poultry in France @Reuters
Spare a thought for all the animals, domestic, farmed and wild, that are also suffering in our climate change induced heatwaves
Especially those hidden behind closed doors in cramped cruel conditions and cages - one can only imagine the incredible distress and death
It's heartbreaking, their well-being and lives don't seem to be worthy of air conditioned barns, yet these heat domes will only continue and get worse

We all hate the feeling of being stuck in a tight space in intense heat. 🥵
Imagine what it's like for her, and the millions of other animals who are forced to live like this their entire lives...
The largest cause of deforestation, ecosystem destruction, and animal extinction is animal agriculture when we don’t have to eat animals at all

ExposeTrophyHunters Mike Deasey hunted this elephant in Namibia. He exclaimed that, 'Hunting this magnificent creature was tremendous.' Yeah, he was magnificent, now he is just dead, Mike. #BanTrophyHunting
This is not farming. This is violence.👺What you’re seeing here isn’t a glitch in the system, it is the system. A shed so overcrowded with chickens that they can’t move, breathe properly, or even live with basic dignity. Every step the farmer takes risks crushing a bird, not out of carelessness, but because space is so limited that it’s nearly impossible not to. But he won’t step on them. Not out of mercy, but because each one has a price tag. Because their lives, in this system, are measured in cents. This is the daily horror behind the cheap meat industry. These chickens will never see the sun. They will never touch grass. They are treated not as living beings with the capacity to feel pain, fear, and suffering, but as units of production. They are born into misery and die without ever having lived. This is not food security. This is not tradition. This is an industry built on exploitation, suffering, and silence. We must stop pretending this is acceptable. We must stop normalizing cruelty because it’s hidden behind walls and marketing labels like “farm fresh” or “all natural.” Animals deserve better. We all deserve better.🌱 Choose compassion. Support plant-based alternatives. Demand systemic change.#AnimalRights #FactoryFarming #EndAnimalCruelty #VeganForTheAnimals #CompassionOverKilling #ChickensDeserveBetter
