Read a friend’s Odyssey review and she wrote about the similarities between Odysseus’ theme and the siren’s theme and referenced a poem that talks about their song being the song of our life as that’s the most irresistible and yet the hardest to listen to. Cool stuff!

I love how prevalent the theme of “hypocrisy” is in The Odyssey. Odysseus violated everything he claimed to stand for and uphold as the ruler of Ithaca through his Trojan Horse plan. Then on his way home, he expects and forces everyone they come into contact with to uphold -

disguises and making his fight with the suitors a fair one.

those same rules. They expect whoever lives in the cave to welcome them and share provisions, and the same goes for the Laestrygonians and Circe. It’s only after his whole journey that he realizes what he’s done. That final pluck of his string is him dropping the lies and -
