Thrilled to announce the publication of my book, Afterbursts: Reliving World War II. The history of the war told firsthand by survivors from the US through UK, Russia and China. Available in paperback now or preorder on Kindle for your VE Day reading. https://t.co/egD4LQjiff
@AmazonUK@amazon please sort this out—with a US setting on my region, can’t buy kindle for someone in the UK. .com versions won’t open there and .co.uk won’t show me the kindle ebook to buy. WTAF. Totally ridiculous and utterly frustrating.
@Tunisia_1943 Rationing in the U.K. went on into the 50s. Crazy to think. My mum remembers going with her mum to meet an aunt who used to pass them sugar under the table in the music halls. And the treat of a tinned peach…
@Tunisia_1943 I have my great grandmother’s French set text books from 1915 or so. “French soldiers at the front”. Reading “history” as it is being made I find quite surreal.
Loved sharing the stories of a few of the amazing survivors I met. My work only scratches the surface but I embrace the quote from @johnwilliswrit1 The People’s War: “In remembering one…you remember them all”
Amazing experience to ride in the back of a black London taxi through the fields of Normandy with WW2 veterans who liberated the region in 1944. #DDay75thAnniversary@TaxiCharity
With one hat I write about #WWII memories (check our Afterbursts). With my other hat on, I write about #AI. This latest report is on the infrastructure behind the tech we all increasingly lean on. https://t.co/WQ4ihrYkRT
@harries71 @almurray Sadly we are often only interested enough when we are older and it’s too late. My grandfather was at Ypres. Found out from his obit in my dad’s papers.
@thebowlerhatman Yes, sir, hat tip.
We ♥️ Mr Benn. Just the other day I had an “as if by magic” moment. Don’t ever let him go—keep up the good work keeping him alive.
I see your Arnhem is a book for the summer, @almurray. Off to have a read now. Would love to compare notes on the soldiers’ eye views from some of the vets featured in Afterbursts.
A recently went to the launch of this Fabulous book by Lucy Colback @whatsitschops ...
Definitely one for you @almurray & @James1940 ...
I highly recommend it.
My Miss Congeniality speech at Afterbursts US launch party: I really do want world peace—for the animals even if we can’t do it for ourselves. #worldpeace#veterans@VFP_LA@VFPNational@usabmc
In @DefenceHQ heartland neighbouring @SouthEastRFCA facilities, @AldershotMuseum, @RAPTC_Official museum and @FriendsofMMM and know that 100s if not 1000s of people within a 5mi radius would love my book of WW2 survivor stories. Tweet me with ideas on how to tell them it exists!
