@r_u_thinking@ZaidJilani Republicans have significantly reduced the number of immigrants legally allowed into the country, and frequently spread lies for political purposes about immigrant communities (eg that they're eating pets)
@popediscordian@JesterJum If your motivation for hating immigrants is racism, you can just say that
Plenty of racists have high followers counts here on Twitter, you're in good company
@boriquagato 12 hour shifts in dangerous textile miles weren't fun either
The long days of backbreaking work are at least usually only for a few weeks a year, with farming
@boriquagato I've never heard an account of someone who enjoyed factory work more than farm work
People worked for factories because they could make a lot more money doing so, or because farm work was no longer an option
@popediscordian@JesterJum Biden didn't follow through on his statement because a judge in Texas stopped him
I'd argue that part of the system was working fine: I still blame congress for not providing a better legal framework for judges and presidents to operate under
@popediscordian@JesterJum We need to either change the laws to reflect our economy, or change are economy to reflect our laws
Either way, Congress is the only legal entity able to do that
Three presidents have tried a patch job with executive orders, and all have failed
@popediscordian@JesterJum The problem with the laws is that they ignore the economic reality of America: there's a demand for growth that's not being met by the native population, and our economy basically requires illegal immigration to sustain itself
@StealthyGains There are undoubtedly plenty of people who don't have a degree who could do these jobs, but those people are harder to identify
Employees use college to weed out candidates
@StealthyGains They know they're going to have to train whomever they hire, and that could take months if not years, and they don't want to invest the time in someone who can't do the job
So they start by choosing people who have shown a minimal level of dedication by getting a degree
@pleasurep111g@historyinmemes It's not that kids today don't have that level of disdain for political powers/systems, it's they consider this to be so obvious it's basically a cliche
Of course the system is out to get them, what else is new? The opposition is also out to get them, so what are they to do?
@SenatorBanks Are you saying we shouldn't talk to kids about driving, voting, drinking, or renting cars when they are 12? Try to keep these things secret from them until they're legally able to participate?
@popediscordian@JesterJum I don't know what lesson y'all took from the Obama administration (and the Bush, Biden, and even Trump administrations), but the one I took was that Congress needs to pass comprehensive immigration reform
Why haven't they?
From 1966 to 2025 we dropped sterile flies over South America that ate screwworm and thus prevented them from spreading, but the le epic efficient cracked coders at DOGE thought this was a silly waste of the ~0 dollars it cost us.
@RajaGili@KatieMiller Trump told people not to trust mail-in voting
Reps listened, Dems didn't
No one's cheating, just a question of how much they believe the President
