@QLoTII@TimesRadio His point is that the funding model is detached from accountability, not least because their funding is not based on need but on calculation from a purely arbitrary benchmark. It isn’t covered in the CE report because they have no role in it.
@ridge666@JeremyVineOn5 I don’t think you know what the Crown Estate is. Put your racism aside for a moment and go find out. The CE doesn’t include Buck Palace for example, which is what I think you’re getting at.
@charlielever11@Warren_Britain@PolitlcsUK No it isn’t. It’s just calculated from CE profits, not paid from it. And only since 2012. They aren’t in any way self funding.
@Shamanic76@RB1649@TRHLadyThalia But it’s all a mirage of convention is it not? What would happen if the king tried to retain the profits of the CE? It would end the monarchy.
@lindy0311@RepublicStaff The NAO report is an example of the net tightening as it dawns on people - some people at least - how corrupt and greedy they are, and how much they are protected by convention and deference. You know, deference like yours.
@lindy0311@RepublicStaff No legislation or govt posts for Balmoral or Sandringham. So what’s the difference do you suppose? Oh yes. It’s the mechanism parliament uses to pay the monarch.
@lindy0311@RepublicStaff The duchies provide a private income but are not privately owned by the king and PoW. Why would it require legislation to provide that income if they were truly private? Why would the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster be a government post? Read beyond the royal PR.
@lindy0311@RepublicStaff Er, I just proved it. The Sov Grant pays for their homes, servants, cars, helicopters etc. The duchy money is provided through acts of parliament and is theirs to spend as they see fit. Where do you think their money comes from? Shifts at McDonalds?
@jamsyjam1989@VeronicaGregson@XOQueenEsther But the Sovereign Grant isn’t funded by Crown Estate profits, just calculated as a % of them sometimes, and, of course, the Crown Estate profits aren’t contributed by the monarchy or the royal family. Oh, and William does get £23m or so from parliament through the duchy profits.
