In 1913, Congress handed a cartel of private banks the legal monopoly to manufacture money. The Fed creates dollars through a ledger entry, buys Treasury bonds with those dollars, and the Treasury spends the proceeds into the economy. New money, conjured from nothing, chasing the same goods you were already buying. Prices rise. You get poorer. Nobody voted for this.

Nixon finished the job on August 15, 1971, severing the last link between the dollar and gold. At that moment, the U.S. government unilaterally defaulted on its Bretton Woods obligations, simply announcing to the world that the rules had changed. Nixon called it a "temporary" measure. Fifty-five years later, temporary is still in effect.

When the Fed expands the money supply, the new money flows first to banks, financial institutions, and government contractors. Those early recipients spend it before prices adjust. By the time the money reaches you, wages and savings have already lost ground. This is the Cantillon effect, named after Richard Cantillon, who described it in 1730. Wealth transfers silently from savers to asset-holders. From you to them.

Sound money advocates have documented this exhaustively. The data is not ambiguous. The dollar has lost over 97% of its purchasing power since 1913. Savings punish you. Debt rewards you. The entire incentive structure tilts toward spending today, borrowing recklessly, and holding real assets. This system is designed to fund unlimited government spending through monetary expansion rather than honest taxation.

MIT economist and Nobel laureate Daron Acemoglu, himself a former H-1B immigrant, says America’s reliance on skilled immigration has created a dangerous incentive:

Instead of fixing American education and developing American talent, elites can simply import the skills they need.

His point is devastating.

America has millions of kids struggling academically while we’re constantly told employers must recruit overseas because Americans don’t have the necessary skills.

Acemoglu says we’ve effectively “given up on the education of Americans” because skill gaps can be filled by importing workers.

Think about that incentive.

Why spend 15 years fixing K-12 education?

Why build serious STEM pipelines?

Why train Americans?

Why force companies to invest in entry-level workers?

Just import someone already trained.

Skilled immigration should supplement American talent, not become an excuse for failing to develop it.

And this isn’t coming from someone who opposes skilled immigration. Acemoglu explicitly says he wants skilled immigration while also restoring America’s commitment to educating its own citizens.

That’s the conversation we should be having.

India's journey to a high-income nation

(1) From lower-middle to high-income
Japan took 19 years; South Korea 26 years; China: 24 years, but India after 16 years is still in lower-middle income bracket (since 2010)
(2) The transition is not guaranteed
The experience of Japan, South Korea and China shows that consistent reforms, investment and productivity gains are key.
(3) Currency weakness reduces India’s income when measured in dollars, so stronger productivity and economic fundamentals matter.
(4) Higher investment is essential, especially in infrastructure, manufacturing, technology and productive capacity.
(5) India needs faster and sustained growth to steadily raise per-capita income and move towards high-income status.

Higher-income status is not our destiny. It has to be earned.

South Africa is a live demonstration of what democracy becomes once a ruling party learns to farm votes instead of earning them.

The ANC takes in billions through taxes and loans and delivers rot: dry taps, sewage running in the streets, a police force that cannot police, and state enterprises like Eskom, the post office, and the railways stripped to the bone. The productive middle class pays for all of it and gets nothing back, so they emigrate or slide into the classes below them. The tax base shrinks every year.

None of this threatens the party, because the party built a captive electorate. Keep people poor, dependent on a monthly grant, and badly schooled by state schools that fail them on purpose, then remind them each election that the grant disappears if they vote wrong. They hand out KFC at polling stations to seal it. The incompetence is the business model.

Democracy lets a coalition of the dependent loot a productive minority who can never outvote them. Hoppe told you where that ends. The only exits left are total collapse or scrapping the system that rewards the looting.
