Very proud to announce that the project of one of our very own Whitecliffe University of Applied Sciences’ students, Marleen Maegi, was awarded last week as one of the top 12 designs in the 20th annual Cosentino Design Challenge!

The international research and creative competition containing two categories for architecture and design has become a global platform fostering innovation among hundreds of architectural and design students from universities across Europe, Asia, America, and Australia with this year’s edition receiving 356 entries from 55 universities.

Our president Prof. Yüksel Pögün‑Zander also played a valuable role in the competition for the 7th year in a row as a member of the jury responsible for anonymously selecting the 6 winning designs and top 6 runners-up.

Big congratulations to Marleen Maegi, 4th‑semester BA Interior Architecture/Design student, for being named as a runner-up in the design category for her project “C for Cosentino”🙌🎉

We look forward to celebrating Whitecliffe University Berlin’s future contributions in the Cosentino Design Challenge next year!

Excited to share that Prof. Javier Martín, our Dean of Architecture and Design, and Prof. Jordi Martinez Ventura, a visiting scholar from Universidad Cardenal Herrera, have been invited by the International Union of Architects (UIA) to present the insights of their collaborative research project at the upcoming Architecture World Congress this Wednesday, July 1.

Their presentation will highlight the research project they’re currently developing between their institutions about sustainability integration within architectural education.

A warm thank you to Dr. Jordi Martinez Ventura from Universidad Cardenal Herrera – CEU for joining us at Whitecliffe University of Applied Sciences for the final Research Colloquium of this semester.

His talk, “Architectural Education and Sustainability: Insights from the Spanish Qualifying Programme and Implications for Training Future Architects,” presented research revealing the weaknesses in sustainability integration within architectural curricula and providing insights to guide stronger sustainability-oriented learning experiences.

Technologietag 2026 took place on our campus on 29 April 2026.

Hosted by AGT Akademie, the event focused on the digital transformation and sustainable evolution of the construction and design industries.

Autonomy should protect platform workers from exhaustion, but for those who depend on platform work for income, it does not.

This is one standout finding from a recent study by Prof. Dr. Hasan Koç and Prof. Dr. Jennifer Hynes, published in Digital Business. Today, up to 435 million people earn income through digital labor platforms (DLPs) such as Upwork, Fiverr, and Uber. Although these platforms often promise flexibility and autonomy, many platform workers experience diminished well-being.

The study confirms that autonomy and boundary control can reduce technostress and exhaustion, while digital surveillance and high work demands intensify them. However, for workers who depend on platform work as a source of income, the freedom to choose tasks is psychologically outweighed by the pressure to earn a living.

The authors also present four design principles for DLPs, alongside policy recommendations in the context of EU Directive 2024/2831 on platform work conditions.

Exploring Economics in Practice: A Visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance

As part of the Introduction to Economics course, our Business students visited the Federal Ministry of Finance to see fiscal policy in action. Under the guidance of Professor Dr. Erick Behar-Villegas, they explored the complexities of taxation and public spending within a building that serves as a monumental landmark of German history.

This visit offered a unique look at how modern governance operates amidst a historic backdrop, bridging academic theory with real-world reality.

We are pleased to share that students from our Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Graphic Design programmes are participating in this year’s mowe Festival for Art and Urban Culture with the exhibition:
“Critical Souvenirs – Archive of the Present”

As part of their Critical Thinking course, students developed critical souvenirs that explore iconic places in Berlin — questioning hidden stories, overlooked dynamics, and the layered contradictions of urban spaces.

The exhibition invites visitors to rethink what a souvenir can be: not only a memory object, but also a poetic response, a spatial reflection, and a critical archive of the present.
