Word of the day is the Japanese ’seijaku: a calm and tranquillity even in the midst of chaos. Often found in nature’s smallest things.

@EdinburghZoo Delighted to see the lovely Capybaras, Luni and Cali, yesterday. They were bigger than I expected:) Also finally got to see adorable Haggis the Pygmy Hippo calf snuggling up to her mum Gloria. Great day out overall.
Today it was announced that the Welsh Government is committed to banning greyhound racing 👏 This is a significant step forward for animal welfare.
As part of the Cut the Chase coalition, we've been campaigning to bring greyhound racing to an end in Wales and across the UK.
@DogsTrust Great to hear. When I worked for the RSPCA in Wales, decades ago now, the kennels sometimes had injured and abandoned greyhounds. It was heartbreaking. I hope other governments across the UK follow Wales in committing to banning greyhound racing too.
⚠️ The severity of destruction caused by #StormÉowyn means @Dawyck is delaying its spring opening.
However, its shop, cafe and visitor centre will be OPEN from Saturday – please do visit and support!

@TheBotanics@Dawyck We were looking forward to @Dawyck reopening this weekend. We visit regularly and have missed it. So sorry to see the damage to their wonderful trees.
We also love the visitor centre, shop and café too. Everyone is so lovely and friendly.

🧵 1/2 For your own safety please avoid visiting our forests, particularly in south and central Scotland.
Our teams are currently out across the country assessing the impact of Storm Eowyn.
🚨 We’re sad to announce that #StormÉowyn has caused severe damage across our Gardens.
At #Edinburgh, 15 trees have been lost – either uprooted or damaged beyond recovery. This includes the Garden’s tallest tree, the 29-metre Cedrus deodara, planted in 1859 👇
A further 27 trees have been heavily damaged, and more than 100 panes of glass have been lost from our glasshouses.
📢 The Garden is back open today, however you will see areas of damage.
We'll provide updates on our other Gardens, Benmore, Dawyck and Logan, when we can.
