Safer streets & great places. Good neighboring & radical empathy. Transportation strategy @smartgrowthusa & @t4america. Annoying you with soccer tweets. DC
My fave SGA program is open for applications. We're looking for 3 teams from midsized cities who have a dangerous or divisive street (ideally an arterial) where they want to test out changes to improve safety via quick-build, tactical urbanism. https://t.co/Oc8XQr33eX
For the low low price of an entire year of disney plus, our family of five can see this new movie in IMAX. I hear movie theaters are in trouble but I just don't get it.
@DDOTDC They're adding a second red lane on the 1500 block south side of McPherson Sq BUT removing the right turns from Eye to 15th. That's going to really cut down on traffic on that one block, removing the easy way to stay 15th northbound. (replaced by left at K, right on 15th?)
The Eye Street red bus lanes have been removed in the 1400 block NW (and perhaps a few others nearby) and it’s not clear if they are going to be restored. What’s the word, @DDOTDC?
@DDOTDC Existing vs proposed for that 1400 block of Eye Street in the background above. (Red paint coming back as it was to the end of the 1300 block next to Franklin Park in both lanes)
@whiteknuckled@DDOTDC They are making improvements to the Eye Street bus lanes based on observations over the last few years! They started at the east end of the corridor (11th St) where they have already installed at least one additional bus bulbout. https://t.co/rqk94DvqSl
"They were not living out in central Jersey because they drove until they qualified; the express point was to exit the gravitational pull of the city, and only enter it on your own terms." My long thoughts on anti-urbanism and growing up in suburbia:

@NickAddamo@DDOTDC Hope so! I don’t have the exact date but It’s been at least a month. I know DDOT no longer allows that kind of delay on crosswalks being restored after repaving
At some point, many folks who believe kids should be safer and communities made more walkable still say "cars must go fast, delay is bad" when the rubber meets the road about how you allocate space.
I agree with a lot of this from Tim Carney!
But one note: If you're spending "all day reading urbanism and walkability literature" and not hearing about designing for kids, you are in a tiny silo.
Safe streets/walkability discourse is LOADED with talk about kids and safety!
The federal government keeps a Walkability Index.
It’s really bad.
The Trump Admin should make it better.
Start by moving it from the EPA to Transportation (@SecDuffy).
Then take traffic volume and speed into account.
Maybe consider schools, sidewalks, and playgrounds.

But I have some bad news for Tim about how Sec. Duffy and USDOT are treating communities that are trying to make their streets safer by a) devoting more road space to people walking and b) slowing down vehicles.
The only thing worse than being a DC United fan these last few years is reading the LinkedIn posts from the grinding linkedin striver running the team's front office from LA:
@_DCHealth@DOEE_DC@dcwater@311DCgov Whose repsonsbility is it clean out the catch basins? Every single one looks like this, long after the last rain. Will soon be hatching 1 million mosquitos per week, if that's something you are interested in stopping.

This weekend I realized you can easily metro out to go mountain biking at Lake Fairfax. Just a short ride from the Reston/Wiehle silver line stop. That's gotta be the best metro-accessible MTB site in the DMV? #bikedc
The guys who drive the blacked out dodge chargers with expired MD plates and fly through red lights are going to park those things and use the Waymos for all of their trips, right? Right?
Cool project: the DC Waymo delay dashboard tracks how many DC residents are dead because the mayor and city council keep demanding studies instead of allowing Waymo: https://t.co/pnPTTU1NpN
