Six Townships in Rakhine State, Including Mrauk-U, Bombed for Four Consecutive Days by the Junta

After losing control of 14 townships in Rakhine State, including the Paletwa area, the military junta—despite the absence of active fighting—has carried out four consecutive days of air and artillery attacks on six townships in Rakhine State, including Mrauk-U. These attacks involved aerial bombs, heavy artillery, cluster munitions, and rockets.
From December 10 through today, December 13, the junta has continuously bombarded six townships in Rakhine State: Mrauk-U, Gwa, Kyaukphyu, Ponnagyun, Pauktaw, and Rathedaung.
In addition, on December 13 alone, the junta carried out aerial bombardments on Ponnagyun Township and Rathedaung Township.
At around 12:18 a.m. on December 13, junta jet fighters bombed several villages in Ponnagyun Township.
At the same time, airstrikes were launched on areas surrounding Taungpauk Village in Ponnagyun Township and Ye-Paik-Sone Village in Rathedaung Township. AB News is still investigating the exact number of civilians killed and injured in these attacks.
Beginning at around 9:00 p.m. on December 12, junta jet fighters carried out airstrikes using rockets and cluster bombs on:
areas surrounding Khamaungtaw Village and Wabo Village in Ponnagyun Township,
areas surrounding Thaikhon Village in Pauktaw Township, and
areas around Police Battalion No. 31 in Mrauk-U Township.
Furthermore, on the morning of December 11 at around 9:30 a.m., the junta bombed several civilian villages in Gwa Township. Naval vessels positioned offshore near Gwa Township also shelled surrounding villages more than 30 times using heavy artillery.
Similarly, at 7:34 p.m. on the same day, a junta jet fighter dropped two bombs on Upper Nga/Lone-Su Village and Lower Nga/Lone-Su Village in Kyaukphyu Township, killing eight internally displaced persons and injuring around ten others, according to reports.
On December 10, which marked International Human Rights Day, the junta deliberately bombed Mrauk-U Public Hospital, dropping two 500-pound bombs from the air. As a result, 34 innocent civilians, including patients, caregivers, and children, were killed, and nearly 80 people were injured.
Regarding the junta’s deliberate aerial bombardment of civilians across Myanmar—including areas under the control of the Arakan Army—the United League of Arakan (ULA) has called on the international community to take effective action against the junta’s war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The Maungdaw District Muslim Affairs Council also issued a statement on December 11, strongly condemning the bombing of Mrauk-U Public Hospital.
Likewise, the Mrauk-U Township Muslim Affairs Office released a statement on December 12, strongly denouncing the airstrike on the Mrauk-U Public Hospital.
In addition, the Township Ethnic Affairs Office issued a statement on December 12, strongly condemning the junta’s deliberate bombing of Mrauk-U Public Hospital.
The United Nations has also stated that the airstrike on Mrauk-U Hospital constitutes a war crime, as it was a deliberate attack, and called for an investigation on December 11.
Similarly, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) declared that the junta committed terrorist war crimes after more than 30 innocent civilians were killed when Mrauk-U Public Hospital was bombed on International Human Rights Day.
Appalled by the attack on Mrauk-U Hospital in Rakhine State, Myanmar.
At least 33 people have been killed and 20 injured, including health workers, patients and family members. Hospital infrastructure was severely damaged, with operating rooms and the main inpatient ward completely destroyed.
Mrauk-U People’s Hospital is the primary health care center in the area, providing health and emergency services, obstetric care, and surgical capacity. This attack will disrupt access to health care for entire communities.
This is the 67th attack on health verified by @WHOMyanmar this year.

Junta Expands Aerial Attacks Across Rakhine; Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung and Minbya Bombed in 48 Hours

The Myanmar junta has intensified its air campaign across Rakhine State, bombing Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, and Minbya over the past two days, killing at least 12 civilians and injuring more than 20, according to local sources.
Pauktaw Town Bombed
At around 2:00 p.m. on November 8, a junta jet fighter dropped 500-pound bombs near Pauktaw High School, followed by machine-gun fire from the aircraft.
Residents reported blasts in residential areas, though casualties have not yet been confirmed due to communication disruptions and ongoing air threat.
Ponnagyun and Rathedaung – Two IDPs Killed
Earlier the same afternoon, the junta bombed Kyauk Than Khae Village in Ponnagyun Township, killing two displaced civilians who had fled earlier fighting.
The junta also bombed Kyein Thar Village in Rathedaung Township, firing from the aircraft as it pulled away. Casualty details from Kyein Thar are still being confirmed.
Minbya – Five Killed Including Two Schoolgirls
On the night of November 7, the junta bombed Myo Thit Ward in Minbya town, killing five people, including two schoolgirls, and injuring ten more.
Homes were destroyed and rescue teams had to collect body remains from the rubble.
Ponnagyun – Five More Killed in Village Bombing
Hours earlier on November 7, a junta jet bombed Yoetaroke Village in Ponnagyun, killing five civilians — four women and one man — and injuring seven others.
A suicide drone attack on Aung Phyu Pyin Village the same morning also left one elderly woman injured.
In Kwant Taung Village, the junta fired 120mm artillery from LIB-344, injuring one elderly man.
Pattern and Intent
Residents say the attacks targeted civilian-populated areas, not active frontline positions.
People across these townships now live in constant fear, sleeping in paddy field bunkers or trenches, listening for aircraft at all hours.
Humanitarian workers warn that displaced villagers living in makeshift shelters are the most exposed and least able to protect themselves from aerial bombardment.

Within Three Days, Four Townships in Arakan Hit by Airstrikes — Two Children Killed, Two Civilians Injured

Over a three-day period from October 25 to 27, the Myanmar junta’s armed forces carried out a series of aerial bombardments — including drone strikes — across four Arakan townships: Taungup, Ann, Manaung, and Kyaukphyu, according to AB News field records.
As a result of these airstrikes, two civilians — both minors — were killed, and two others sustained injuries.
On the evening of October 27 at around 7 p.m., junta aircraft dropped a 500-pound bomb near the Mahosadha Free Private High School close to Meechaungtoke Village in Taungup Township. Although the school was unoccupied at the time, several school buildings were damaged.
Earlier, on October 26, Ann Township was bombed twice — at 3:28 p.m. and 3:32 p.m. — killing an 8-year-old child.
That same afternoon, a 14-year-old child volunteer from the Pure Heart Foundation, who was engaged in humanitarian rescue activities near Kwan Taung Village in Manaung Township, was killed by a junta drone strike.
On October 25, the junta’s air force conducted two bombing runs over the area between Thain Chaung and Pya Kyin villages — locally known as the Palaung Chaung area — in Kyaukphyu Township, injuring two civilians.
The Humanitarian and Development Cooperation Office (HDCO) condemned the attacks in a statement issued on October 25, noting that the junta continues to commit war crimes against civilians in Arakan with complete impunity.
🔥⚠️Around 40 houses were burned to the ground in Laba Village, located along the Myeik–Dawei highway in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Dawei District, after junta troops launched an assault in the area.
The military column began its offensive on October 20, advancing through several villages along the main road. On the morning of October 23, fighting broke out near the Laba Village school between Junta soldiers and members of the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs). Following the clash, troops set fire to civilian homes and began widespread looting.
Residents said the soldiers seized motorcycles, bicycles, and household goods from around 50 homes, transporting them away by truck.
“Around half of our village is gone. The soldiers burned down houses and set up a temporary camp inside Laba. They took everything, TVs, refrigerators, motorcycles, bicycles, even rice cookers, and loaded them onto trucks heading toward Dawei,” said a local woman.
Laba Village, which once had about 100 households, is now half destroyed. The troops also looted property and valuables from nearby communities, including Sin Kyin and Pitaing Villages.
A resident from Sin Kyin reported that junta soldiers stole at least five motorcycles and numerous household items from Pitaing, while in Sin Kyin they ransacked homes and took four motorcycles along with other belongings.
By October 26, the same Junta column, estimated at around 150 soldiers, had reached Pantaw Ward and Sinku Village in Tha Yet Chaung Township, raising fears among residents of further destruction and arrests.
