Dahlia is an Apple Watch-first audio journal that helps you reflect mindfully on your day. It relaunched in December 2024 for iPhone and Apple Watch, with the primary goal of making downloads and updates easier.

@twostraws Wouldn’t “phablet” (phone + tablet) be a more accurate description of the dual nature of the “iPhone” Duo? I’m looking forward to hearing about your experience with it. Right now, I’m a bit lost on how to approach UX on the Duo: discovery first, deep dive second?
@lukestevens@asallen It is a testament to Jony’s design ethos that so many from his Apple design team followed him to LoveFrom. It suggests he fostered a creative environment people genuinely valued.
@codingmilf If you are planning to code in SwiftUI: Revisiting Paul Hudson’s 100 Days of SwiftUI as an intermediate developer is a smooth, structured way to get back into the coding mindset. It is up to date, insightful, and everything clicks with more context thanks to prior experience.
The three remaining day colors on the sessions view: green, blue, and purple. This view lets you choose a meditation duration that suits you—5, 10, 15, 20, 30, or 50 minutes.
Dahlia changes color every day, cycling through six monochromatic themes. When the six-day cycle repeats, Monday won’t always be red—giving each day its own distinct character.
Dahlia’s homescreen displays a 6-day overview of your recorded messages, each day in a distinct color (red to purple). After six days, a new cycle begins.
Tap any day to view details like mindful minutes and listen to your recorded message.
In Dahlia version 0.2, I have updated the journal prompt from ‘What Made You Feel Content Today?’ to ‘What Story Did You Have Today?’ This shift encourages anyone practicing mindfulness to give more context to their day rather than simply listing positive moments.
Each journal entry in Dahlia begins with a grounding meditation, helping you settle into your body and the present moment. Your entry completes the session—and every session counts as mindful minutes in the Apple Health app.
Dahlia in 4 steps:
1. Choose a meditation duration.
2. Find calmness through deep breathing.
3. Record your grounded message.
4. Keep track of your recorded messages.
@raphaelschaad It would be rad if the iPad Pro could switch between iPadOS and macOS: macOS (no touch) when connected to a Magic Keyboard, and iPadOS (touch + Pencil) when disconnected.
For anyone who had the original Apple Watch-only version or isn’t sure which one they downloaded, just delete the app and reinstall it from the App Store on your iPhone.

@VictoriaFutures I am captivated by Flora’s whimsical reinterpretation of Rococo. I could wander through her colourful world for hours.

I have retired the old Apple Watch-only Dahlia app from the App Store. While Dahlia remains Apple Watch-first, it is now a multiplatform app.
Its iPhone app is quite basic for now, but this new architecture lays a solid foundation for 2025 and beyond.
