Burnham has inadvertently handed the SNP a golden opportunity. He has conceded a Section 30 will be granted if there is clear support for an Indyref or for independence. The only way to demonstrate such support is by explicitly asking voters. The only way to do that is via a single issue election campaign.

Moreover, by saying Scotland should be treated the same as Northern Ireland, Burnham has also conceded the seven year rule will apply. Thus, the SNP could revisit the question in seven years.
